I thought that they had done away with league tables in Wales?? The last time the tables were available I think it might have actually been Cowbridge that was best in Wales. Basaleg is another which was always highly regarded. The Bridgend comps are good too.
Pretty much all the schools we have mentioned are fine but of course there are some other schools with poor reputations, so you need to do a little bit of research. I don't really know how you measure how well a school is performing now though???
They tried to radically shake up the school catchment areas in Cardiff recently and even close some schools down. The council were forced to drop the plans but I have no doubt that revised plans will surface again before too long.
Have you tried Bridgend. It has good schools, depending on the area you live in...... (like most though).
It is only 20 minutes on the M4 and Link Rd (depending on how you drive and when you leave).
I live in Bridgend and work in Cardiff - it's great. The best thing about it, is that you can come home and go out in the evening/day without the risk of bumping into anyone you work with (unless i go to Cardiff of course).
Hello to everybody.. I am moving to Cardiff with my husband and my 2 children to study a Masters Degree in Cardiff University. I have been twice in that beautiful city but to be honest I need a lot of advices. Principally, I would like to know good options to live relatively close to the university but also good places and schools for children. Especially, nice and quiet places.. Thanks a lot.
Hi guys! I am moving to Cardiff pretty soon and looking for a property to rent. Probably in St Mellons. What can you say about areas of Heritage Park, Jasmine Drive Locke Grove and Meadow Sweet Drive (the last three are near to the South-East part of Willowbrook Drive)?
I've got relatives in Heritage Park and in my opinion it's OK but not fantastic. (They seem to like it.) I don't think I'd want to be going to the south of Tesco though. I know a few blokes who worked on a building site there and were regularly hurt by local kids chucking stones at them!
It's not my favourite area but i guess it depends what you're looking for. Do you need schools? Do you need to be close to town or the M4? etc.

Oh, thanks! I will need access to the city centre and probably some local nursery for my 2 year old son. And of course I won't like any stupid kids around throwing stones at my son.

Damn! Jasmine Drive, Locke Grove and Meadow Sweet Drive are apparently to the south and south-east from Tesco.
The main route into Cardiff from St Mellons is along Newport Road. I think the bus is the number 30 but there will be others that go into the estate. Newport Road can get very busy and tends to clog up about a mile or so before the city centre, at its junction with Marlborough Road/Albany Road. There are cycle lanes if you go by bike but they aren't very brilliant. There are bus lanes, so I think the busses roll along reasonably well.
I sometimes travel by rail into town, which is quite good value, but I don't think East Cardiff is served by many trains.
I'm not very knowledgeable regarding the nurseries in the area really, but I don't think the schools have particularly good or bad reputations. Perhaps somebody else might know?
Obviously it's pretty well placed if you need to get onto the motorway.
Thanks mate. We had a look at St Mellons - there are some nice areas, but we have eventually chosen a house in Pontprennau, which is much better at the first glance. :j

In that case I correct her by saying that Pantmawr, Morganstown and Tongwynlais are in Cardiff!!!!
