jiblets1 wrote:The commute from Llantrisant etc isn't very nice, junction 32/33 can be nightmares. But it is a nice area and much cheaper. We've just bought in Caerphilly, it's a small town that is quite sociable and is a moderate commute over the mountain to Cardiff centre. (180k for a 3 bedroom end link with garage)
Back to Cardiff central, Llandaff is also nice. But obviously the best areas are quite expensive.
Good luck!
also i know a lot of people who work in cardiff but live down here, and train it in from either Bridgend or Pontyclun0 -
see i go the other way from penarth to caerphilly every morning and its great going against all the traffic both ways! Takes me 25 minutes each day! But there are nice places the other side of penarth down towards cosmeston lakes or theres llandough too.Trophies are like Buses, you wait 26 years.
Then 3 come along at once!!!!0 -

Hiya
I would stay out of Cardiff itself and go to the outskirts, dinas powys, llandough, radyr, etc
will get more for your money and the city centre is only a hop away on the bus/train!Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0 -
We were hoping to get away from commuting. The OH currently commutes from Pembrokeshire to Swansea (1 hr drive each way) and it's doing his head in.
Will be hitting the estate agents this weekend with all your info. :jCos I don't shine if you don't shine.0 -
I'm originally from Rhiwbina, when we married we bought a garden village house which was great as it was in a square, close to the shops, buses, station etc, the downside was that we could only paint the house a certain colour, only have certain new windows and also the hedges had to be kept at a certain height. At the time the village was still very much a village, now its just Estate Agents, Solicitors etc, the only food shop is the Spa! and YES houses are now extortionate, the average Garden Village house is now £200,000 plus, we moved to Old St Mellons 20 years ago and are quite happy here.
Whitchurch is a nice village and they seem to have a good community spirit.
Thornhill might be worth looking at (between Llanishen/Rhiwbina), they have a Sainsbury, some good schools, a lovley Pub (which has just been done up) and borders some lovley countryside (Caerphilly is just over the mountain).
Most areas in Cardiff have local estate agents so its probably worth looking in their windows for price guidance.
Bare in mind life in Cardiff is at a much faster pace than Pembs but the shopping and entertainment is great, and we have a Primark!
Good luck

Hi another second for Barry here. we moved from Cardiff to Barry 3 years ago as house prices in Cardiff were getting silly.
I love it here. the whole Barry area is being regenerated and as well as being a good investment propery wise, it is a fab place to live .
It is worth considering imho.0 -
