Hi matt
Don't worry you won't be flamed on here, people will only try to offer you help and suggestions.
First of all are your parents getting all they can in the way of benefits? If your Dad is working reduced hours might they be entitled to any additional help - working tax credits etc? Could you look into that for them.
Obviously your SoA is showing quite a large shortfall each month so I've put some suggestions below as to where you might be able to look to make some savings (they are just suggestions though and obviously you might not be able to do some of them).
Your costs are not actually that high its your debts compared to your income that are crippling you.battyboimatt wrote: »Hi All,

I would consider talking to one of the debt charities about entering into a debt management plan where you reduce the amount you are paying to your creditors. It will affect your credit file and you won't be able to get anymore credit but it seems the only sensible option for you at the moment.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Can you cancel the cable TV? That £49 a month is very high and would be better used to help pay down the debts.
Do you have anything worth selling that could raise a bit of money? Car, bike, anything like that. Even little bits add up.
As Tixy advises, I'd contact CCCS or Payplan to get some advice on payment plans.0 -
Hi, I'm new here and no expert. But from looking at what you have and how loaded up you are...it seems a DMP via CCCS etc would be best option.
Carrying this burden is mentally and physically draining every day...so having posted and had a LBM...is really good.

Tixy, thank you for the fast responce let me try and answer the points you have raised, another problem I have is that I dont want my paretns to find out, my dad is already under enougth stress finding out about the cancer, hes prepared for the worse but obsivoly we dont know how long he has, could be months could be years and I dont want to add worry to him, but I know if I stop paying things the phone calls and that will start and *sigh* thats why ive been plodding on, Ive been using my overdraft for the shortfall, I have a £750 overdaft which im always into then out of when get paid but go back in within days of been paid by the time ive paid my bills. £400 is for board its for living at home and for my mam to do all the washing ironing and cleaning etc, its £100 a week which I couldnt rent anywhere for so its resonable, Gas and Elec I contribute to as I use lots of elec in my room £35 is the family landland line and broadband, my mam and dad give me the line rental which i usally then use as part of my petrol allowance, Sky is the HD package which im under contract to, I could reduce it but would still be about £26 but its a saving good idea, the £80 grocieses is for the extras I buy and for when my partner comes and sleeps and stay so I tend to buy the extra and MBNA good point old rate but looking on there caculator it still comes up as £25 so I dont know what im doing wrong there, but no it will be the old rates I have used, im just so fed up and depreseed and already have alot on my plate, the house is owend by my mam and dad and not me by the way.0

I would get some debt advice from one of the charities. Just stopping paying would result in a lot of calls, chasing etc, but if you set up a DMP with a third party and then start to pay them all reduced pro-rata amounts the hassle shouldn't be too bad. You might get a few extra letters but presumably parents wouldn't notice this too much? There are templates you can send to ask for all communication to be in writing and telling them to remove your phone numbers from their systems.
Of course any small savings you can make on sky or reducing mobile etc will help but none will help you sufficently to be able to meet all your repayments. So eventually its almost certain you will run out of new credit available to you and will have to default. The noticeable impact should be less if you do this in an organised way through a DMP (noticeable to your parents I mean).
I expect this is a long shot but does Dad have any critical illness insurance and has he looked to see if he could make a claim (I know you cannot claim for some cancers) - its just sometimes people forget what cover they have when the time comes that they need to put in a claim. Not that this would make a big difference to your circumstances or debts but as a seperate issue it might mean he could give up work which might be better for his health.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks Tixy, I feel a little better for all the replies
would a DMP really be a good idea, I mean my brother is on a DMP he owes about 40 grand and hell be dead by the time he pays it all back, would an IVA or Bankruptcy a good idea, Ill guess I'll give CCS a call when I pluck up the courage, I need to get on top of things, otherwise Ill never get sorted.

CCCS will run through all the options with you and will advise you on the best one for you.
On a separate note you might want to tell your parents something, I get that you don't want to burden them but have you thought about telling them something. I would suggest that you mention something alone the lines of 'too many credit cards to keep up with so are organising your finances'. It means that you won't have to hide everything, and while you are budgeting and organising yours you can offer to help them out as well so maybe cutting some of the household bills.

I can't help feeling £400 a month is an awful lot for a parent to be taking off their offspring particularly as you contribute to bills aswell. Is there anyway this can be reduced ?
I agree a DMP is the best way forward. You are indebted to a large volume of creditors and juggling those on your own will be very stressful as these people can be a huge nuisance when they want your money.
Good luck and don't worry because it is put righteable.:beer:0 -
Thanks everyone, I feel a little better now, Cyrial i know £400 a month seems a lot but I wouldnt be able to rent anywhere for that in the area, even the council flats are £86 a week, and I like to help out, my dad has already told my mum and me that after the small mortage is paid off, there will basically only enougth to cover the funeral and nothing else, so the £400 does help with bills and stuff for the house and that, I mean why my dad does pass there will be only me and my mam and she is 60 already and hasnt worked in fourty odd years, so ill need to look after her as well, at least the house will be purley my mothers then, my mother has never paid Nation insurance so wont get a state pension, althoughs he might be able to get my dads nino contribuations, but thats something I dont want to even consider at the moment, id rather have my dad0
-
Hi,
You say your mum won't get state pension because of NI - however although she won't get the NI bit she will get a pension - has she claimed this? Also it sounds like she's eligible for pension credits - these will make a huge difference if she can claim these - and also that will make her eligible for help on housing costs etc. If she (or you on her behalf) contact age concern, they are really helpful at letting you know all the things you are eligible for.
