Kia/Hyundai's resale values have increased, in no small part due to the remainder of warranties available on middle-aged cars. (They have also improved due to a more desirable product, but that is only part of it).

They have been running the warranty for a while and it is starting to bear fruit. I wouldn't be surprised if it passes into history at some point, although that would be seen in a negative light by the buying public now.

Perhaps a better way of putting it is that the Kia/Hyundai warranty has sured up resale values, rather than will sure them up.

Vaux/Ford's resale values are relatively poor due to other reasons unrelated to vehicle quality -- mostly the glut of second-hand cars littering the market.

As for Toyota, no. Their image has taken a bashing, but their core market won't change just because of some foreign litigation -- that's the point. They haven't "lost" the reliability angle as you put it -- that is too absolute a description. Those who look highly on reliability still trust a Toyota over a Renault, trust me.

    "trust me"

Why, are you a used car dealer?

Oh come on, how many people do you know who would seriously say that a Renault is more reliable than a Toyota?

Don't those who look highly on reliability actually buy a Kia/Hyundai? :rotfl:

Some do I'm sure. They've been doing very well in customer satisfaction surveys of late.

I personally have bought a few Korean boxes due to perceptions of reliability. I have not been left disappointed.

One thing is for sure, anyone who does the research isn't going to buy Renault for faultless service :rotfl:

Why do you ask, are you? After all you were the one who said with certainty that Toyota had "lost the reliability angle" -- that suggests someone "in the know".

Or the ones who want their bonnet to stay down?

I don't think anyone buys a Renault for reliability - they're more exciting than your standard ecobox though

The one owner stipulation is carefully designed so that they aren't left havint to support the vast majority of their sales, to the fleets. They know that these buyers replace after three years.

The number of people who (a) want to run a car much longer than three years, (b) don't cover too many miles (so will be able to take full advantage of the deal) (c) would consider a Vauxhall and (d) would be prepared to pay main-dealer prices for one when there are thousands of discounted (pre-reg/demonstrator/grey-imported) cars littering the market is, I would have thought, rather small.

So, why are there so many dealers? If the chances of them selling so few cars are "rather small," they would have gone out of business a long time ago.

If a lifetime warranty is offering to repair faults that arise at any time, during first ownership, you might find that many more people will be willing to hang to their Vauxhalls than before.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

The Lifetime Warranty is now included on NetworkQ Vauxhall cars as long as the vehicle is under 1 year old and has covered less than 30000 miles at the time of sale to the second registered owner www.networkq.co.uk/lifetime-warranty/ This would allow the warranty to apply to cars being sold that have been regsitered to the dealer.

That's good news for those buying ex-demonstrators and pre-registered cars.
