Feel a bit better today - but still so tired!

So, we went to currys and looked at TV's - not much wiser now, but going to do a bit of research on the net to compare different ones and to see if we can get waht we want cheaper (and with points or cashback if applicable).
Popped into IKEA and they have the mattress we want in stock - so need to go back with the van, in the next week or two (definately by the end of Jan as DH has sold the van as of 31 Jan!)
Groceries for this month: thought I'd update as I was unsure how much I had actually spent - but we are looking at about £121 so far. Not a shopping day for me today - but need to go and get some more meats for DH packed lunches as I am not going to give him cheese for a while - so prob going to go to Herr A tonight instead of tomorrow.
Last nights tea went pear shaped as we didn't get back till 7pm and then our neighbour popped round (finally going at about 7.50) - I said that I would cook, but DH said that I looked too tired and we ended up with an Iranian takeaway - it was very nice, but a bit expensive for the amount you got. BUT I did use the leftover hummus for my lunch today. The takeway came out of the eating out budget for this month. At least the fish I had planned to cook was still in the freezer, so there was no waste.
Totally forgot that I owed DH for the new suspension spring for my car - so the £30 gave me the weekend has now gone back to him!
Tonights tea is Orange Braised Lamb Shanks with Mash, Savoy Cabbage and Roasted Parsnips. I love this meal - haven't done it for ages and really looking forward to it.
Glad I'm feeling a bit better today, so I can enjoy my meal tonight.
Off to look at my mealplan and see what I need from the shops.
Middle of the week folks!

We are going to try him on different cheeses after a couple of weeks with no cheese and see which ones are affecting him - we hope that abstaining for a little while will purge whatever it is that is making him feel bad.
He's really upset - we still have a camenbert to bake in my new cheese baker I bought at the food festival in September.

Hi MCI
Good to read that you are feeling better
Lucky you living near an Iranian takeaway - mmm I love middle eastern food. We don't have takeways very often as we only have Chinese and Indian (I'm not overly keen on Chinese food and Mr MWC cooks much better curries!). This weekend I'll get my middle eastern cookbooks out and start menu planning for February
MWCMortgage at highest (April 2008): ~£195,000

£7 spent in Herr A last night, so groceries up at £128 so far this month.
Contacted the mortgage protection insurance people today (should have done it before Christmas - whoops) and I have reduced my cover from ASU, Life and Critical Illness down to just Life & Critical Illness saving me £10 per month on the premium. (I know we haven't got kids, but I feel that I should have some cover as DH is covered by work). The ASU cover was specifically for the mortgage and as we haven't got it anymore it seemed pointless. The lady on the phone said I could keep it going anyway and claim the old mortgage payment for a year should anything happen - but I'm in the mind that we are set up well enough at work to cover any bills and it would certainly be much easier without a mortgage to think about.
Had a quick fiddle with the budget too and it seems that as I changed the insurance provider, I now owe the deposit account £26 from the saving - so I've transferred that today and adjusted the standard figure I will transfer next month.
DH wants us to go an see the house, but he thinks that it won't be the one. I told him how I felt about the finances and we both agreed that if the right property comes up we should go for it - our situation is pretty sound, could be better with the deposit fund, but we would manage.
I think the talk about lack of money to do the house up etc... has sunk in as he says he's going to clear his bank account up at the end of the month and he says he thinks he'll have a few £s to give me to go into the fund once he's done this.
He has also sold his van as of the end of the month, so he will just have his car - he needed to do this before Feb as he didn't want to insure it again and he was worried how much the MOT was going to be - its been a good van - but it was decided that he really needed to go back down to one vehicle - especially if we are going to be moving!!!!!
Tonight I am going to attempt to cook us the Fish with Tomatoes and Creme Fraiche that we didn't have the other night - I am going straight home, so will prepare this and cook it when DH gets in - no excuses!
Hope everyone's Thursday is going well.

Hi MWC
I like middle eastern food too - we used to have an egyptian restaurant near to us, but he sadly closed last year.
Haven't got any specific middle eastern cookbooks...can you recommend one? got some waterstones vouchers to spend

Its Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hurray! I actually managed to cook the fish last night!!!! lol
Grocery shopping tonight and have to get cat food - I've also decided to get some yellow lentils as I had lovely tin of lentil & bacon soup for lunch and want to try and recreate at home for a more MSE option. (Have some bacon in the fridge that needs using up).
I think groceries under £200 might be a bit of a struggle this month, but this week should be my last spendy week and just need bread, milk, fruit and cooked meat for the next couple of weeks. We shall see.
Need to count up Penguin Pot again and see how many 50ps I can pay into our account, so this is a job for the weekend along with making soup.
Tonight's tea is Spicy Turkey Steaks with Lemon & Basil Warm Potato Salad & grilled tomatoes. Turkey is from the other half of the christmas turkey I cut into portions.
Hoping to make Saturday's tea Pork Meatballs with Chipotle Sauce.
Have good weekends all.
