Hiya MCI,
Hope the snow hasn't caused you too many problems this morning. Expected to hit us in the East Mids about lunchtime - although bbc weather says 'light snow' until tomorrow, so hopefully stays that way.
Stay warm,
Megela
Thanks megela
Its been snowing pretty persistantly since 8am and for us its quite deep really (though dad thinks he's snowed in and thats pretty rediculous).
Was told to leave work at 12pm so went and did my shopping, went and bought some of those shoe grip things for a friend, dropped them off and had a cup of tea, then got home and had lunch! Sitting infront of the fire now with the cat, waiting for DH to come home - so nice and warm now.
Hope the snow doesn't hit you too badly, but it is coming your way - bbc weather can't always be trusted!

PS No other MSE news today really apart from £13.50 at Mr T and £6 at Herr A last night (£173.50/£200).

Yep we've now got it well and truly - I left early at 1.15 (I finish at 2.30 anyway!), collected DD2 from primary school on way home. Walked 1.5 miles to meet elder daughter from senior school as I felt sorry for her! But there was no way the car was coming out again.
I'm supposed to have an *sda delivery tonight between 6-8pm, rang to say I was home at 4pm if they wanted to come earlier but I don't think we'll see them today now! Bit short of milk but I'm sure we'll manage.
DH left work an hour ago to do a 9mile/15min journey home, and is still only half way home!
Don't need to go anywhere that's not walking distance at the weekend so I'm staying in and warm all weekend.Re-mortgaged 20/04/12 MTiT-T3 No.7Start balance £89611.10 + £22500 = £112111.10/Current balance £85436.53

I left the car at home this weekend - DH did the driving to his mum's yesterday.
Went to see that house on Saturday and we are in a bit of quandry.
The location is great, but there is a bit more to do to the house than we first anticipated. Also, there might be an issue with fitting all the things I want in the kitchen - this is very important to me. There is also an asbestos garage that will need to be taken down and disposed of.
With the deposit and all the work that needs to be done it would more or less clean us out - I don't want that - we need our respective emergency funds and DH wants to change his car (prob for a van if we go for the house). However, we have not ruled it out as you have to keep your options open (we changed our minds so many times yesterday it was stupid!)
So, I am going to do some sums based on various scenarios, plus, do an estimate on the priority work we would want doing and then how long it would take us to get the rest done (I am getting too old to live on a building site these days).
We also have more questions and I would need to measure in the kitchen to make sure I could make the space work for me. DH also wants to look at the roof etc... and this would be best done when the snow has gone.
So, not a yes, or a no at the moment - we are also going to factor in the stress factor of moving this quickly and how much we would need to get our house sorted for letting - need to take everyhing into account.
If anyone has any views on this situation, I would value your input.
More to come later - just needed to get that off my chest.

Sounds like too many misgivings to me to be honest.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

You dont sound entirly convinced! I would not be too put off by the work, not that it would clean you out as you are in the right mind set for this to not be a long term situation plus you would have the rent from your current house.
However the kitchen space is something i would struggle to compromise on.
I think the estimations idea is best...see how the figures stack up and if it is worth it. Although I personally think if it was the house of your dreams you would already think it is worth it??!2019 Totals: Savings: £929.53 / Mortgage OP - £746.32

Go with your gut feeling. It's a huge purchase so you have to really want it... by the sounds of it, you want it with this change and that change and it's not that close to perfect at the moment.MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0 -
Hi GG, Laura & MRN
Thanks for the feedback.
I am sounding rather negative arn't I? I think its because I love my little house that we are in now, but it will always be my house to DH (even though he is joint owner).
To be fair, the house we looked at has lots going for it:
- great location
- quiet road - almost a cul-de-sac
- good price
- black & white beams and features that I love on the outside (need to be renovated - but that wouldn't be an immediate job)
- nice size garden (blank canvas)
- opportunity to put our stamp on it as needs totally updating
- double doors from the dining room at the front through to the 21ft longe at the back both DH and I really like this feature
- patio doors out onto the garden from the lounge.
- room to put the table and chairs I was left in the dining room
- workshop space for DH (where the old asbestos garage is at the moment)
- driveway for both cars (we park on the road at the moment)
I'm going to give it some thought and do my sums as I said earlier. Had the estate agent on this morning and I said that we were thinking about affordability of the work that needs to be done and said we would be in touch with any questions and that we might come back for a second viewing once the snow has cleared.
I am a quite emotional person and I think my attachment to my current house is getting in the way - I want DH to be happy too (not that he hates our little house or anything), but he would like to move out of the area we are in at the moment. The potential of this property in the long terms is good - but I need to get my tape measure out on that kitchen!
Thanks guys for the input - I will keep reporting back and I hope you don't mind me bouncing ideas off you.
In other news:
DH gave me £80 at the weekend to put into the deposit fund and although I still haven't ventured to the bank, I have transferred the 50p money and the £80 to our deposit fund (£120 total) and I have updated my signature.
Lamb & Leek Pasties tonight for tea, with Mash & Veggies. (Lamb is an odd lamb shank from a pack of 2 I bought from Herr A sometime ago - DH had one when I went out one night; pastry is some frozen puff pastry I've had in the freezer for sometime.)
Hope everyone is coping with the snow ok.

Naughty estate agent - should have done a proper floor plan with measurements so you'd know straight away how big the kitchen is without having to go round with your tape measure.
Once you've got the measurements, could you play with one of those online kitchen planning things to try out different ways of arranging the things you want to include?Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

Sounds like a plan Lois...
We did have some dimensions - but its difficult with the kitchen as part of it is an extension and although I have overall dimensions I could do with knowing the exact measurements for the extension part itself.

I agree with MRN - go with your gut feeling. We both knew as soon as we walked into our house that it felt 'right'.
There are plenty more fish in the sea, you're not in a hurry to move and can wait for your dream house to come on the market - it may happen tomorrow! You never know what's around the corner.Re-mortgaged 20/04/12 MTiT-T3 No.7Start balance £89611.10 + £22500 = £112111.10/Current balance £85436.53
