I've just sent this email to Tesco:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Your value tins of tuna flakes in brine (barcode 5 051399 337722), claim on the label to contain 129g of tuna with the brine drained off. I have weighed ten tins purchased over the last 6 months, and none of them were up to weight. The best was 23% short, the worst over 37% short, the average for the ten was nearly 30% below weight, and all this during a period when the price has risen by over 25%. I have checked the accuracy of my kitchen scales against the checkouts at both Tesco and Sainsbury, they are not at fault.
Actual weights for the ten tins measured are as follows:
81,96,85,95,97,99,83,95,87,&90g. Mean weight 90.8g.
Yours Etc,
Perhaps it's their new tuna friendly policy, I'll post the reply when I get it.

I never buy tuna in brine - I can't give it to the cat. Oil's quite nice, but again, not great for moggies. I tend to buy the springwater ones."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

How did you consistently remove the brine, and how does your brine removal method compare to that used by Tesco to determine the tuna content.
Your study falls over on that count.
I'm assuming the content quoted is the weight prior to the addition of brine, and your post-purchase removal also removes an element of the tuna, hence the lower weight described.
The variation is likely your variable menthod of brine removal.Legal team on standby0 -

Me too, but when I had no springwater ones I used brine, drained it and soaked it in plain water for a bit and made sure she had plenty of other water. She never once complained0 -
And don't get me started on the size of Club biscuits :mad:0
