EssexHebridean wrote: »Becky something in your post really resonated with me. When I first joined the challenge at the beginning, I was in a well paid job, affording to buy stuff wasn't in real terms a problem and I know I was lucky to be in that situation. Since then my circumstances have changed dramatically - and faced with a two-thirds drop in income, and still wanting to maintain our mortgage overpayment, I have been truly grateful for a) my stash, and b) the insight that this thread has given me in terms of the products I really like and feel are worth paying "that little bit extra" for. However, one thing which jumps out at me stems from the Glamour magazines that so many of us have ended up on the naughty-step as a result of this week - the four little items I bought feel like SUCH complete treats, and I value those little £2 items so much more highly than I would have done a year ago. Because I now have so little money to spare for myself, buying the odd "small" thing like that is now a treat, whereas a year ago it would simply have been an incidental purchase.
EssexHebridean, I toally agree. The 2 products I got with Glamour feels like a real treat since they were bought with my £20 a week living allowance rather than with my credit card. Me too, is truly grateful for my stash but also very pleased to see some of the unloved products in the bin when used up. Well, done for continuing to overpay your mortgage payment when you are earning less.No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j0 -

thats 10 uu altogether from march-dont think i will have much more this month apart from maybe a couple of bodylotions that are lasting for ever and ever.keep strong everyone my total from 17th jan is-85 items!!:T(includes a couple of samples and 2 outs)i would never have done this if i hadnt been doing the challenge.
85 items is amazing , I have managed 15 which I am proud of as it takes me forever to use up stuff. I have a big loot of stuff that I am currently working on using up and it's not even a splotchy stage yet!!:beer:No Buying Toiletries 2015 challenge :beer:Last bought : April 10thNo more starbucks / costa challange

I have another UU to report - a Next 'magical' body lotion - it is one I have honestly had for years so I am glad to see the back off it now. On to a Boots one.
I really enjoy this challenge - partly because I have numerous products which are all part finished - I do not know why I never seem to finish them - so this is a great way to reduce my number of part finished bottles.
Happy Sunday afternoon everyone - especially Celebrate - hope you are feeling a bit better about the whole situation now! xxx0 -
I've finally got internet access at home! YAY! So hoping I'll be able to keep up-to-date with this thread a little easier now
I managed to NOT buy the Body Shop groupon voucher, so am feeling rather pleased with myself for that! :A
I have the following list from February:
In:
- Maybelline Volum'Express mascara in very black (10.4mL). Came in the post as a freebie!
- Organic Surge Tropical Bergamot shower gel. Excellent offer posted on the grabbit board, with free matching body lotion, £1 postage charge and free night cream too! I'll be moving to more natural toiletries as my stash gets used up, so this seemed an extra-good offer.
- Organic Surge Tropical Bergamot body lotion. As above.
- Organic Surge Overnight Sensation night cream. As above.
Used up: :j
- Pantene Time Delay conditioner (30mL). WIBA? Well, this was a trial size, from a GWP. It smelt nice and left my hair soft. However, I wouldn't buy again as I'm not a big fan of Pantene (their shampoos give me spots on my scalp!). I also want to move towards more natural products, and Pantene is as far from that as you can get.
- Korres pro-vitamin B5 & rice bran mascara in black (9mL). WIBA? Yes. It coloured well, did not run, and did not irritate my eyes. It is also a natural product, which I'm going to switch more to as my stash runs out.
- Soap & Glory Wash Your Hands of It hand wash (250mL).WIBA? Yes. This was from a set with a large hand cream. It had a lovely scent and cleansed well without making my hands dry.
- Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Skin Balancing Makeup (30mL). WIBA? Yes, if they still make it. It was a very good colour match (#21, Ivory), and wore well throughout the day. However, I have several other foundations to use up before I need to buy any more!
- Simple Daily Radiance cleansing wipes (25). Received in the post as a freebie from the Simple website. WIBA? No. They were nice enough, but nothing special. Other, cheaper wipes are just as good.
- Sanctuary Spa Instant Hydrating Toner (200mL). WIBA? Yes, I liked this product. It made my skin feel refreshed, and appeared to get any muck that my cleanser had left behind. I have another in my stash that I am looking forward to using.
- Aquafresh Fresh & Minty toothpaste (50mL). WIBA? No. I liked it and it worked well, but am now living with my bf and he only likes Colgate or Sainsbury's own.
- LF Beauty Pore Refiner. From a user trial. WIBA? No, not even if I knew what brand it was. It didn't seem to do anything for my skin.
- Soap & Glory supereyes, supereyes (15mL). WIBA? No. I liked it well enough to start with, but it started to sting a tiny bit as I got into the second half of the pot. I don't think it did much for the skin around my eyes. I also think that eye creams/gels should be in tubes, in order to make the active ingredients stay active longer.
- Natio face cream (20mL). WIBA? Yes. This came as part of a travel set that I bought to take with me on holiday. It was lovely. It sank in really well and made my skin super-soft. I really liked it, and am looking forward to using another tube (same size!) in the set I have ready for my next holiday
- Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue Eau de Parfum (125mL). WIBA? No. Not because I didn't like it, but I've got a bit bored of it now. Have been wearing it to work to use it up, and it's been good for that.
- Natio Hand and Nail cream (20mL). With Lavender and Rosemary, part of the same set as the face cream above. WIBA? I wouldn't buy the full size as it's quite expensive, but would happily use it again as part of a set. It wasn't as moisturising as I need for an every-day hand cream, but for use while travelling it was fine. It sank in quickly and smelt lovely.
- Superdrug double-faced cotton wool pads (100). WIBA? Yes, these are very similar to the Boots ones, but cheaper! The Boots ones have become a LOT dearer over the last year!
- Elizabeth Arden 5th Avenue body lotion (200mL). WIBA? No. It went well with the EdP listed above, but in general I think it's more cost efficient to just use more perfume that it is to use a really expensive matching body lotion.
- Pantene Time Delay shampoo (30mL). WIBA? No. Gave a lot of lather, but also gave me spots on my scalpHad to alternate it with a nicer shampoo for this reason.
- Body Shop Hemp Foot Protector (sample pot). WIBA? Yes, but have some included in a gift set I bought in the January sales. Feet feel a bit tacky after putting it on, but they feel lovely and soft in the morning
Thrown out:
- No7 Facial sun protection SPF 50 (50mL). Probably about half full, but from last year's sun holiday, so probably not effective this year. WIBA? Possibly. I liked that it stopped me from burning (which it did very well), but it felt rather greasy on my face.0 -
Oooh I have a splutter: Johnsons 24hr facial moisturiser, going to have to cut it open!
Tbh it's meant to have a bit of self tan in, but I'm still as pale as snow, so doesn't really work. I think I picked up 2 tubes for £1 in TK Maxx so wouldn't buy it again.0 -

On a side note others have been posting about the thrill of the chase and doing things so that they don't end up going to the shops... Has anyone here considered Geo Caching? (to be fair I haven't been myself yet), but apparently all over the UK people have been hiding bits and pieces (to my knowledge not toiletries!) and there are clues to follow so it's a bit of a treasure hunt. I'm thinking of doing one in a few weekends time when the weather's a bit better. It'll hopefully keep me out of the shops at the weekend and away from temptation!
Loving this idea of toiletries geo catching. I would be well up for that!!
Celebrity - Can't add anything that the lovely ladies haven't already said but wishing you well as you start to deal with some of the things in your life you are not happy with.
 welcome to all the newbies - looking forward to seeing those stash lists.
I have a UU to report Clinique pen concealer neutral fair. WIBA? Yes I would nice colour and good coverage - even on my spot prone skin. Think I will look out for an offer on GWP and buy that as one of my products.
Also a splutterer with only a few more applications in it. Tigi Bedhead Texture Paste. Which I enjoyed using. No buying toiletries Graduated May 2017Decluttered 2016 2469 items, 2017 1580 items :j2018 3060 itemsSealed Pot Challenge No 0380 -
I've tried selling them on ebay before but I think as they're Avon ones they don't send to sell. The only reason I think I have so many is I used to buy them in the sets of other stuff I used to buy and think I'll get round to using them but never actually did. I'm making an effort to use them up on a daily basis now so hopefully they will go down eventually.
Funnily enough I haven't bought any body lotion since I don't know when so don't have a problem with buying when not needed, more using when needed :rotfl:
Had my mum and sister come round today to help tidy the house for the valuations next week as kept being sick this afternoon for no reason. It was nice to see them though and spend some time with them even if it was whilst doing housework.
Best of luck with the house stuff. You're more than welcome over on the declutter thread - we're doing a mini challenge this weekend of getting rid (recycling, freecycling, ebay, friends, last resort bin) - 20 things this weekend.
