No Buying Toiletries in March Challenge

Also, chucked out a novelty bottle of bath foam for Golfers. No idea where it came from, my OH doesn't even play golf! It was luminous green and smelt like toilet cleaner so it went straight into the bin.
xx
ACCA - did you think of trying it out as a toilet cleaner. :rotfl:
I am using my yuccy face creams that seem to have separated, as foot cream. This is a tip I picked up from others here0 -
Hi celebrate, think I remember you from the various Grabbit thread! Not sure what advice to offer exceptthat you are in the right place! And to maybe think before you buy (I hope that doesn't sound rude!). You obviously sound like a kind and generous person. Perhaps you could start but commiting to spend a certain amount/ buying a certain number of things? Hope you find some support from this thread! And welcome!lizziebabe wrote: »Sorry to reply late but still wading through all of the news
When I worked at a GP's Surgery we lent out machines to people for a week so that they could record their BP at home.
BP changes, depending on - the time of day, whether you have just had a hot or cold drink and/or a cigarette. Also if you have been out in the cold.
I once did a course in BP taking :rotfl:
Thanks for that! I think the nurse expected me to have something wrong with me - she gave me a blood test then an appointment with the Doctor - the Doctor wasn't really sure why I was there as there was nothing wrong with the blood test except slightly high chlosterol:rotfl:. Wasn;t offered a home bp machine either, so will have to go buy one

ME!! :rotfl:
Welcome to all like- minded newbies  (you will, throughout the course of this challenge, find yourself on the naughty step a fair amount of time though - be prepared!)
Well, I'm off there for a while myself as I bought 3 glamour mags from 2 different places, then went round the nearest 2 towns and visited many newsagents/supermarkets in the vain hope of getting a moisture surge
None to be found and god knows how much I spent in petrol  Luckily for me, a good friend of mine has picked one up for me :kisses3:
So 3 ins for me when I was going to be SOO good this month!:o
Big hugs to all who need them and love your nails sawan!
Shouldn't that be FOUR ins then, if your good friend has another copy stashed away for you!! :rotfl::rotfl:
Hello Celebrate - hmm, I think we've crossed paths before - like you I only found this website at the time of the Boots sale and I am sure that it kicked me into a frenzy of buying. It was 100% responsible for me buying the S&G tote bag and much of the stuff from the Boots sale and then the Body Shop sale. I felt ashamed at how much I spent in the January sales on toiletries when I have a mortgage and bills to be paid off and large vet bills to pay. And a few people told me I'm a hoarder .
Over time though, I am learning that offers come along aaaaalllll the time so there is really no need to panic buy. And there have been lots of good bits of advice on here that have really helped me -and lots of links to yummy products that have NOT,although with some lovely free sample links! :T
My favourite is that if I have a years supply of something, then no matter how much of a bargain I DON'T NEED IT !!
I have found it helps me to stop being so stupid in the fact that I make myself fess up on here when I make a purchase. I also put the amount i spend each month in my signature as seeing it in black and white makes it more real.
Another trick I often use on myself is to fill my basket with lovely things and then close the window - often just the thrill of browsing and having a basket of stuff has fulfilled my need for a 'fix'!!
I do still visit the Grabbit board but mainly just to browse - I've had some genuinely good offers on there for stuff I needed that HAS saved me money - the trick is to only buy what you would have bought anyway! Well, that's the theory anyway....:D....I did succumb to the Glamour offerwhich i never would have even known about but for this thread, but at least these are things that I don't usually use........and it was a fairly low spend.
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
Quick question - How do you get the Debs beauty card???? Theres a Debs opening near us in May, I want to be ready....:rotfl::rotfl:
At any of the make up counters in store, Clinique/Clarins/Lancome, etc, take your pick. Then when you have the card you register it online. You get the plastic card straight away in Debenhams unlike Boots who post the cards.Total debt 11/1/2011 €5350.65Total debt 12/12/12 €3222.31CrazyClothesChallenge 2013 #006 €34.08/€5000 -
Hi to all the newbies
Managed to read thru and big hugs to those who have been poorly.
Well..... I bought 2 Magazines. One had the 7 day face scrub. I've never used it before sowhat does the 7 day mean?? Or am I just being thick
The other one had the eye make up remover, which I like. Everyone is raving about the moisture surge moisturiser. Please tell me why - and does it have an SPF? It may be worth getting anyway as it's only 2 squid and could sell it on ebay.
Goodnight everyone - and see you soon0 -
ok so i have an uu today
went to use my avon supercurlacious diamond mascara that i got free with something in november and had left sealed and in a dark place to find it was completely dried out!!well annoyed its not even on the website anymore so i cant even get another..ive had mascaras in the past for years opened and never dried out :Pserves me rite
£365 a year spend challenge - this has included food/clothes/beauty?? who knows where I am
20,000 step a day challenge0 -
It is totally ruining my life, my sister has nicked half my stash of perfumes and didn't seem that grateful. I am spending less and less time with my family, am irritable with the OH if he bothers me while I am engrossed on the comp. I have exams to revise for and updates for my job i am just not keeping up with.
Not really sure what to do. I know I couldn't hack going cold turkey.
Any advice appreciated:) Sorry I know this is a no buying toiletries not a no shopping general thread (but i have spent hundreds on toiletries recently hope i qualify!!)
Is it really awful to tell you that I loved reading your list of bargains and am wondering if you got any/many Glamour magazines
But seriously if a website is upsetting your family life that's a problem. I'm a bit of a bargain hunter too and I also check Grabbit every morning but only for 10 minutes or so. I just read the titles of the threads, ignore most of them, always open the Boots ones and anything else that appeals to me. Can you limit the time you spend on there? Start a diary on the "debt free diary" board, read other peoples diaries. Or you could block MSE from your computer if you really need to do that.Well my BF also subscribesahem!
LOL at the boyfriend with the Glamour subscription:rotfl:Total debt 11/1/2011 €5350.65Total debt 12/12/12 €3222.31CrazyClothesChallenge 2013 #006 €34.08/€5000 -
One thing that has crossed my mind a few times since I joined this thread, is how little a year's supply can be.
If I am economical, I will just need 800 ml of shampoo and 1 litre of shower gel (1000 ml) to see out the year, and that's with washing my hair 4x a week and showers 6x. Many books and articles I've read point out how little shampoo you actually need to get your scalp and hair clean. I've got it down to 5ml.
With a body puff just 5 ml of shower gel - a teaspoonful- is also enough to give me a thorough clean
I know mine is a very modest stash but it will last me the year in most things.
You may use substantially more shower gel than me - I know my son does - or far more shampoo. Any thoughts?
Going on what I've seen of some stashes, many of you literally have enough for the next decade but that's at my use - up - rate, not yours.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

Is that the "youth as we know it" cleanser? I got one in Debenhams around a month ago for €10 and it's really good. I think it was reduced because they've changed the packaging.juliebunny wrote: »and it was a fairly low spend.
Actually that's kind of my method for dealing with the Grabbit board, keeping the spends low. I know that a few £'s here and another few £'s there adds up but if someone was to buy all 10 Glamour magazines that's £20, it's not substantial.lizziebabe wrote: »Everyone is raving about the moisture surge moisturiser. It doesn't have SPF. The reason everyone wants it is because the "free" £2 size is valued at £18, it's the most expensive of all the items.Total debt 11/1/2011 €5350.65Total debt 12/12/12 €3222.31CrazyClothesChallenge 2013 #006 €34.08/€5000 -
Hi Celebrate, I feel like I know you already from all your posts on the boots and lloyds threads in particular! I know what you mean about the bargains and how easy it is to just go mad and buy anything and everything just because its on offer. I have found that the three day rule works well; basically when you want tobuy something think about it for three days and then when the time is up and you still want it then get it. Am sure this is Martin's rule but have found it really helpful and has stopped me impulse buying so much. I also find I buy lots for others or get bargains and then give most of it away as presents - I need more control too on that front, so your not alone!
Hope everyone has a good weekend.0
