Three beds in a single room.

Hoping someone can help, either they know a perfect product or fancy a design challenge.

We have 3 boys sharing a bedroom. I'm sure an agent would say it is a double bedroom as you could get a double in it, but not much else.

Anyway there is only enough floor space for one single. So currently we have a shorty bunk with a high sleeper over. The high sleeper has storage so quite wide and takes over most of the room. Our ceilings are low so our son can only just sit in bed.

Our middle son in the top bunk can only get in bed by crawling and cannot sit at all.

We also have a small wardrobe in the room which is not adequate and a small storage unit.

We want to change this so would like ideas on how. I have looked at bunks with trundle but they still take over most of the room, plus we lose the underbed storage space. Sadly trundle beds for shorty beds don't exist.

So anyone got any ideas? Of course budget is a major issue.

My friend was looking at these a while ago, when she had a similar problem. This is the first one I found

How old are the boys? Might help in giving answers.

How can it possibly be a double bedroom if there is only space for one single bunk bed. It sounds as if you are trying to fit a quart into a pint pot.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

assuming a normal height 8ft. 6in. room, it shouldnt pose too many problems.

i would be tempted to get a futon bunkbed - sofa at the bottom that converts to a double bed, with a single top bunk

  • Love those beds Ormus. Also liked the ebay ones, not a bad price either.

Bit worried about measurements though and whether we would still have the same problem because as I said we have low ceilings.

Measurements as requested Richard are width 247cms (8ft 1) by length 268cms (8ft 9). The height of the room is 230cms (7ft 6)

27 Col...We could get two singles in just if they were side by side but this would take most of the floor space and possibly even mean we could not open or close the door. However we need to have a wardrobe in the room plus there needs to be some room for all 3 to get dressed at the same time.

The boys are 14, 12 and 10. The middle one is autistic so has a bed full of cuddly toys. He also loves books and his DS. Our youngest is a massive lego fan who won't take things apart once built which is why we need storage and plenty of it.
  • It's going to get worse as they get bigger, so can you start budgeting for a loft conversion?
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • Is your room a bigger bedroom? you could put the 3 of them in with more room and use their current room as yours instead maybe?

Judging by the size of the bedroom, I can't believe it is the biggest in the house. I'm assuming yours and your partners is the master bedroom and is bigger? If that is the case, could you not move to the smaller bedroom and put the three lads in the master? Alternatively, do you have a dining room that could become another bedroom? A garage that could be converted? I appreciate money is an issue, but to have what will shortly be 3 teenage boys sharing an 8' square bedroom surely can't be acceptable? Think about what boys get up to in adolescense!:o

Ugh...do I have to think about that! Lol.

Sadly we rent, and despite being on the council list for 11 years we are no nearing to getting a bigger home so have to make do. This means we can't extend or convert and I'm sure it would be illegal to put one in the metal shed!

No dining room either as it is kitchen with space for a table and then lounge with stairs in it. It is not exactly the biggest of homes.

Our room is slightly bigger but only slightly. We also have the airing cupboard and a chimney breast to work round. I'd say ignoring this area it is only about one or two foot longer at the most. Width is the same.

If we swapped, they would have a bit more room but as we have a king size bed it would only just fit in their room and no space for anything else so we would have to put stuff in their room defeating the object.

Thanks for the ideas though. Have worked out we might just get a shorty mid sleeper in as well (in my head anyway). Only about 50cms between them but they would have room underneath. Then if we got hanging rails instead of wardrobe we might just squeeze it all in. No floor space left though :(
