thanks for bringing this back on topic
Andy - anyone clicking on your posts on this thread can see you've done your typical act of sabotaging it with useless non-advice and spitefulness.

Shame the OP isn't aware you allegedly committed suicide some months ago at your computer and just pop up under new guises....
  • Would it be possible for you to put your mum up for a short while until she gets a cheaper flat possibly?

I would love to, but we live in a very small 1 bed flat. There's just no room, she could stay on the sofa... but it's not really convenient, and I'd have to speak to my partner about it.
Not to be too basic but I think the key is why the benefit has reduced if her circs have stated the same.

The April changes won't suddenly hit in April but on the anniversary of her claim. It would really help if you were able to fInd out what has changed and what the anniversary of her claim is.

I have a feeling the lady on the phone was slightly mixed up. Although my mum did specifically ask her what they would be paying the landlord next month and the lady said £229. We're just going to have to go down there and speak to someone in person.

Her claim started in March 2010, so her anniversary is 25th March 2011?

Hopefully this is the case. It's possible that the Housing Officer (or whatever their title is, never dealt with them so no idea :D ) has misunderstood, or even only been given half of the information*, and has deduced from that, that every claimant will have an x% deduction to the allowance as of April this year.

From what others are saying, it certainly sounds as though your Mum has quite a while to go before the new rates take effect for her.

    * I'm not slighting the lassie, I remember when I worked for a large Utility company, it wasn't unheard of for customers to tell me about price changes etc or fill in the gaps that management left out from their "briefings".:rotfl:

I think that there are going to be a lot more posts regarding housing/LA benefits, in the next few weeks, a lot of people don't read newspapers, or understand what the new rules are are going to be. Many are going to have a real shock.
