hi
not trying to have a go but i noticed down the thread you went to a checker site and you said that it never gave you the answer to someone on dla care not paying non dependent deductions but panderspot allready told you that you dont thats all i wanted to point out

I would assume the cousin on DLA and IS would qualify for a disability premium for living independantly.
As soon as someone moves in over the age of 18 or claims carers allowance he will lose the dis premium which is a substantial amount approx £50/week so he's gonna lose out and so is your mum.
As cousins can legally marry they would be subject to a living together interview to see if they are living as man and wife. For example if they share bills etc they can be seen as behaving as a couple. The only way they can get out of that is by the carers allowance but as I said this will impact on your cousin.
I know loads of people are saying it but your mum needs to increase her hours to 30 and claim WTC aswell which will make her a lot better off but thats easier said than done.
As for the LHA and JSA thing. Not everyone on JSA gets full rent so imagine if the LHA is what it is for your mum then its the same for someone on JSA and where as your mum has £114 they have £65 to top up out off. thats why there are so many homeless single people0 -
I just want to thank EVERYONE who has replied and offered their help, really appreciated and taken all on board. I will have a good chat with my mum when I go to see her during the week.
Sorry to be a pain in the butt, but with regards to working tax credit... if she was entitled to it, would LHA take that into account as an extra income? or would she be allowed to spend it on bills lol.
I'm sure we can try and at least find her another 10 hours a week.hi

No problem, I guess I type too slow!
But, when I mentioned going to a site and it not giving me an option to add a non dependent, I was just replying to Jowo's post.I would assume the cousin on DLA and IS would qualify for a disability premium for living independantly.

I understand the situation now, I just wasn't aware of all the rules. I didn't know people had to pay money out of their JSA if claiming LHA. I've learned quite a bit here already! Going to try and find her an extra 10 hours to see if she can get WTC.
Oh and he's my cousin so he is my mums nephew, so not sure they would think they're a couple... hope not!:rotfl:0 -

I could not afford a private let at the time so I rented a room in a house which was cheaper. We all have to cut our cloth according to our means.
When I did eventually find a cheap private let I rented out the bedroom and I lived in the living room on a fold up bed.
This is all in the past now and I own a variety of properties now.
May be the OP's mum should get full time hours in any job that she can, it will be better for her in the long run so she will have a choice of where she lives in the future.
oh god here we go the whiter than whites are here i tell you what how about anyone on hb or lha just be put into tents on an island so not to burden others0 -

One thing I knew if I did not work full time, I would get nothing I asked around and eventually found a room to rent from a person who I worked with. I knew that it was not going to be forever, it just took time for me to find my feet.
the point is people dont need it ramming down there throats when they are in need which is normally the way these threads end up0 -

Not to be too basic but I think the key is why the benefit has reduced if her circs have stated the same.
The April changes won't suddenly hit in April but on the anniversary of her claim. It would really help if you were able to fInd out what has changed and what the anniversary of her claim is.I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.
