    Part of the Furniture
    Hi peeps,
18866 requested that I allow cookies on my firefox browser. Then I got to the sign up page, which had a padlock where you type in the url and another down at the bottom of the browser. So I hope I'm encrypted now.
    Thanks for everyones help,
    tweeter.
Peel back your baby's eyelid to find no nationality or religious identity mark there. Peer at your baby's eyes for them to reflect back just people-throw away your flags and religious symbols...

Glad to see they have got the customer login working direct from the site in secure mode at last!!
Looking to raise some money ;)
  • What also concerns me is that with both the 18866 and 1899 sites, once you are actually logged in there does not seem to be a 'proper' way to log out. Unless I am missing something.

    What do other subscribers do?

Hadn't thought of that before. It is a bit pants that you can log in but not log out. I normally just close my web browser.

It usually give you the option to close the window, that's what I just did when I accessed my online bill and it took me to the first page and I am happy with it as the padlock is still visible using firefox. Unable to access the secure site with IE, though. Hope this helps.

Well done 1899/18866. When you go to both websites now you can see (NEW SERVER) written on the page description and both will have the "S" and the padlocks for secure log ins. Despite being almost non contactable, they seem to be responding well to customers concerns. thumbs up.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
  • It's strange how the missing padlock has evoked such a large response. Before 18866 offered a secure login service the login was wholly insecure and I brought that to the attention of this site with virtually no response!

The 18866 also uses no passwords - yet no-one complains about that, except me. If the site did require a password which then no longer a requirement, then everyone would complain. But because there has never been a password requirement no-one complains (except me).

I know you have to quote your account number to logon but you only have to ring an 0808 freefone number from a registered phone and a recorded voice helpfully reminds you what it is!

That means someone else could then add their phone number to your account and you would pay for the calls!

If the site is encrypted I can't see why you need a password as long as you close the window after logging. Also is someone manges to add their number on your account (with all the difficulties that involve) then you'll be able to see it on your bill. They are so cheap even if the intruder used your account for a whole day then you wouldn't lose a fortune ! just think of the savings everyone is making using these great services.

You have just proved the point I was making!
  • I have just registered with both 1899 and 18866 and there was a padlock showing.

    cheers

downandout! (a £15 a month better off downandout! at that)
