[Cut the CCs up yesterday- so tomorrow my first day out without them- that feels scary.
Hi there i just wanted to share with you my experience of this. I also ran up a similiar amount of debt a few years back due to CC's and i decided last year that enough was enough as we added this amount to our mortgage which we had done a few years previously as well. So instead of mortgage payments going down they were going up. The BEST thing i ever done was cut up cards, DH has a card and its never more that £200 balance. Yes it was tough at the start, but i wouldnt change it for the world, and im now proud to say that i dont have a credit card. I know that i will never get another card as it would be too tempting. I wish you luck
Its so good to hear your experience- well done. Think I will always be tempted so really dont EVER want another credit card.
its the first day for me to use the site- could someone please tell me how i continue to follow this thread- dont want to lose the info and advice I have already had - many thanks allx0 -

Hi, and welcome along. Can I throw in a few bits of advice from someone who is a bit further down the road than you (but still has a long way to go!!).
Be completely and brutally honest with yourself. Work out a realistic budget and keep an accurate spending diary where you write down everything you spend. For me there is always a temptation to fudge the figures to make it look better!
Accept that this is a long journey and the path to being debt free may not always be smooth. If you do fall off the wagon promise yourself that you will get back on again and all is not lost.
Remember that every small step to clearing the cards is good and the pennies really do matter. There may come a point where you think "I am not making much progress, why am I bothering". Keep a record of how much debt you have now to look back on.
Keep coming on here and reading the threads for advice and inspiration.
I have never told many people about my debts but just being able to come on this forum and know you are not on your own is so comforting.
Good luck with it, you sound determined and I am sure you will do it. x0 -
Thanks so much - its so great that you can give us hope, being further along your journey.
I did my first day without a credit card!!! didnt expect to feel so good- thought I'd feel pants but I dont- couldnt wait to log on and get some motivation from these threads.
Went into Asda for milk and squash and bought only those. my major temptations are usually clothes and magazines but I avoided looking at either- thats a major result for me!
just another 7000 more days of doing the same and will be sorted!! :j0 -

hi Lilykins - congratulations on your first day! specially resisting in the supermarket, that is a weak spot for me too. we started shopping at a different supermarket that doesn't sell clothes! I felt really low whan i first stopped shopping, but i have now made it through all of Jan and tomorrow - all of Feb too, and i feel great! the sense of control i have gained outweighs the desire to spend now.
I know what you mean about hiding the shopping bags in the car boot too! That must be a tried and tested method of the desperate!!:rotfl:Back in the Driving Seat! - [STRIKE]December 2010[/STRIKE] June 2014
