Wow what a fab thread - havent posted in yonks but have lurked - this thread has tempted me back...thanks to everyone for all the fab ideas. I have an allotment but neglected it last year having been unwell in hospital but have got two friends onboard this year - we're all rotivated and just getting going, it's a blank canvas which is nice... have planted red and white onions and shallots and garlic. Planting early spuds tomorrow and then going to get our strawbs in, going to start some seeds at the weekend and after reading the tip on here will be saving loo rolls for my leeks! All very exciting. I see lots of you recommend Marketmore cuces, I bought Tessa which I have done with success before but am tempted to order some marketmore on ebay - thats my problem - I cant stop buying seeds! Anyway, it's nice to be back on here and I look forward to reading more tips and ideas and wish everyone a fab growing season xx
Not sure how much they are on ebay, but Poundworld sell Marketmore seeds and the small compost and pot.
I've got 14 cucumber plants from them (did have about 24 but dropped a tin of soup on half the tray .. long story, lol)0 -
Thanks Meerustar - will check that out tomorrow - although I fear I will be tempted by yet MORE seeds once in there hahaha! If Life Deals You a Lemon - Make Lemonade!! :j0

Is it just me that is itching to get out there and mow the lawn? No point with the ground being as soggy as it is...raining hard all day and the sun has just come out!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Well, have spent all day pricking out broad beans, and about 150 to go!!! (I reckon the first pre-Chirstmas lot in the ground just chose to not bother).
First lot of toms sowed early Feb now need pricking out and their own 3 to 4 inch pot.
Traditionally I would be looking to get spuds planted this weekend, if possible will dig the trenches this week, so that the sun (ha ha) can warm up the soil, even in the trench, and get at least the earlies in over Easter.0 -
It is snowing here again today. I got my seeds out and had a look at them last night. I'm not planning on doing anything any time soon because the ground is so cold. I planted some broad beans in pots a couple of weeks ago but nothing as happened so I'm going to stay in bed too.
The trouble is there is so much to do on the allotment. It needs digging still  At least the weeds aren't growing too fast. I'm still ahead.... just.Well behaved women rarely make history.0
