Sown some more Seeds this week and on checking Seeds indoors this morning it looks like Chillies and Peppers are trying to poke through at last.:j

Weather not been too good down here this week, very misty and damp but looks good for the Weekend so fingers crossed I can get out and sort the Garden.

It feels a bit chilly this morning so am biding my time re opening up the patio grows, pvc doors are open and fleece will be open at 9ish and then I`ll also move most plantlets out where they will get a gentle stroking in the breeze. I`ll only leave newly born plants under fleece as well as peppers, tomatoes and aubergines. I thought my 2 aubergines had done their last flop yesterday and I didn`t mind as they are just an experiment but they are standing tall and sturdy again after a drink. I have 4 more aubergine seeds planted in a warm propagator with the squashes. Warm=24. Later today I will move some seeds to my airtight lock and lock boxes and then back to the fridge for another year. I have been doing this for 30 years and it is very effective

I will be putting old, soil stained trousers on later as I have some heavy work at the allotment ie soil shifting from someone elses unwanted heap. I have some soil building to do, then I will cover in weed fabric and also put the fabric around the outside of my raised beds. It`ll be worth it. I got superb weed control fabric at costco. I thought I would be aching today after my soil shifting yesterday but am surprisingly fine. Oh yes two hats on, first I have to prepare Irish stew and leave on a very low timed simmer

I have had to explain that the four tier tardis is not a space rocket and "no, you can't go inside". :D

LOL :rotfl:I wist I could get things above her level, it seems she wants to be a monkey.
Anyway it looks as though my Pak Choi is the first of my indoor seedlings to sprout, quickly followed by lettuce and tomatillo. A couple of flowers have sprouted too. In the greenhouse my mushy peas have woken up, hopefully my early peas will be following soon.
Blueberrys are budding up well, it's their second year. I'm just waiting to find out if my little lemon and orange trees/sticks have survived. They are still slightly green undereath the bark so hopefully they will recover. It's a lovely day today, much better than the fog that we've had for the last couple of days. Although I had a dumb moment yesturday. I was digging out the second trench in my greenhouse when it suddenly dawned on me that I will be able to garden in all weather now, :rotfl: it was lovely and calm in their while drizzling outside.

Seeds planted and under a propegator - Early sprouting broc, spring onions, radish, carrots, brusels, beetroot (ala Monty!) and loads of lovely spinich! Oh and some peas.
Propegator looking steamed up - is this normal? - never used one before, do I need to wipe it?
I planted leek seeds in a pot in the garden around 2 weeks ago, and nothing has sprouted??? Do you think they've failed?
    Thanks

Don't panic about the leeks. I've had mine in for about three/four weeks now and they are only just showing green hooks for a few of them. It must be the weather.

My propagator usually steams up. I don't worry about wiping it.

I accidentally cooked seedlings once, when the sun shone on a propagator with a lid. Never again, I always make sure that cannot happen now by putting trays with lids into the shade unless I am in to watch over them

I think I finally found a name for my car today - "Tardis", as she's only a little Ford Fiesta, but managed to swallow several 7ft tree stakes acquired to support my raspberries with! :rotfl:

I've been a good and given the lawn it's first mowing of the year.. Now if I can get my butt into gear (and put down the laptop!) I can try my hand at making newspaper pots for planting seeds, and then today will officially rate as 'productive' :D

  • Re: envelopes for storing seeds. I save all of those that come thru' my letter box every week in the junk mail, nice strong white ones usually so plenty of space to write plant names, growing tips and any info' necessary .
If you are planting things out in t'roll tubes make sure you plant the top of the roll below soil level or it will wick the moisture up and evaporate it during a dry spell .
really recommend growing Land Cress (watercress is so expensive!)really easy and you can cut and come again all year, pick before the stalks get too big , last year I allowed a couple of plants to go to seed so will have a free crop this year.
