Is 2 clicks really a rabbit warren?

Thanks. Perhaps not quite a rabbit warren..., but a few years ago all you had to do was click on your account and you could see immediately what the interest rate was...

  • Have tried to pay my credit card online today. I find the new Halifax website will not except payments from other banks anymore. I phoned Halifax and was told all customers should have been informed of this change, I was not to my knowledge. I asked what I could do to get round the problem. I was told pay by post, to which I replied that the payment would not get there in time. I was told to take cash to the bank and pay over the counter. I replied I would not walk about with large sums of money so this was impractical. To cut a long story short I had to rephone and beg someone to pay by my debit card over the phone, they should only take Halifax curent account cards over the phone. They could not tell me if the online payment facility would be reintated, but if I joined the Halifax for a current account the problem would be solved. I shall now cut up my Halifax credit cards and go somewhere else.

I take it that you wanted to send a payment from your bank (not Halifax) and pay your credit card bill (Halifax).

Could you have sent a bill payment from your bank quoting the sort code, account number and card reference number for your Halifax credit card?

Alternatively, could you have taken a cheque to a Halifax branch to pay it (instead of walking about with "large sums of money")?

I just paid my Halfax credit card bill in the usual way - a bank transfer from my bank account (online). I cannot see how that cannot work - confused by your issue.

You used to be able to pay online using a debit card, which some people found useful. This feature is not available in the new online banking.

They wrote to me about this, it was in a booklet explaining all the other changes to T&C's and online banking. There was also a warning message on the old website for several months saying that this feature (payment using a debit card via WorldPay) would soon be withdrawn.

Yes you can log into your other bank and set up a bill payment from there, but your other bank won't tell you how much is owing on your Halifax credit card. It's not a big problem, but if you were used to the old method it could be seen as a step backwards.

    i dont like it
  • I think it's terrible.

I've never been impressed with Halifax's online banking when compared to others I've used, and I was looking forward to the upgrade but actually it has made online banking virtually useless to me (I only have a credit card with them), as I can no longer view statements online.

    Hope they will rectify this!

I find that it is better and worse in some ways. Formerly you could amend payee details but that's been stopped in the new version. But on the plus side it is easier to make payments (fewer steps used) and the overkill with dropdown/select has mercifully gone.

Overall some improvement. The remaining niggle is that it's really just a skin - the look of Lloyds may be there (OK, the big 'emoticons' are a bad idea) without the reliability I associate with their site ('hanging' pages which still crop up regularly on Halifax)
