I've been trying to book a mini holiday and seem to have been out priced when it comes to butlins etc and then I came across this thread. I was thinking maybe we could work a trip to London around Legoland and maybe Chessington but we don't drive so I guess it could be akward. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children aged 5 and 10. I see everyone is getting prepared for the sale but I know little about London. Would Travel Lodge Euston be best for us as its near the tube? Also what else would be fairly cheaper for us to do to fill our days? Any advice and guidance would be very much appreciated :-)0

I tried to book a 4-day break yesterday on the Travelodge web Site. It refused to accept my username and password. Despite renewing the pasword several times, simplifying it as far as it would go, at no point would it accept it. I then tried booking and registering with a new email address. I got as far as having entered letters for my memorable name when it hung. After an hour I tried using the website form to find out if I had been charged. All I got was an auto-response. I then walked to my local Travelodge for help. All they could do was give me the number for central reservations - 10p+ per minute. After a message that went on for over a minute they said the call centre was closed due to "technical difficulties". Dicovering that my new details had not been set up, I set them up first. This time when I tried to book it hung before asking me for my memorable name info.
I tried again today and could not get access to either of my accounts, and still no response from "customer services". I then phoned the hotel direct and they told me they had had a lot of calls from people with the same problem as mine, and gave me the number for central reservations as they were unable to take a booking. I tried that number again with the same result as yesterday. That automatic message gave their customer service email address. I tried there and eventually got another autro-reply telling me to use the form on their web site!
the hotel told me it was a new web site. What kind of people use a new Web Site for a major promotion without checking for bugs?
the whole business has been a nightmare and a complete waste of time. A company should have at least 1 person contactable when things go wrong. They should also disable access to the Web Site until the bugs are fixed.
I still don't know if I have had my account deducted and if so, how many times. I tried using Firefox AND Internet Explorer so they don't appear to be browser-specific problems.
There are some threads on the travel board about this. I had similar experience last week - cost me a fortune in the end to book a flexible room. I tried several times, several cards and each transaction failed. As you have discovered, TL employ approximately one human on a hideous revenue-gaining 'helpline'. If it hadn't been such short notice with few hotels available I wouldn't have bothered. Even ringing the hotel was useless, they can't book you in!! All that and I ended up sleeping on the floor as they messed up the booking.
I can only imagine the carnage on Thursday if they haven't done something very radical by then.
And I'm still checking my accounts to see if I've been charged multiple times - wouldn't be the first time.
Also, I tried every number before the 0871, including 'Say No', and that is the only one working. As you know, they clock up more money by making you listen to a slow irrelevant notice.0 -
Trains to Windsor (for Legoland and get a bus from the station) and Chessiington run from waterloo train station so It may be best to stay either at Waterloo or at Southwark (as 10 minute walk or 1 stop on the tube to Waterloo). Both locations have good transport links and are near the eye, Thames Embankment for boats to the Tower or sightseeing Big Ben and the House of Parliament The Museums i.e. Natural history, science and V&A are by South Kensington tube 4 stops from Waterloo involving a change at Westminster. Near the Museums are the Peter Pan Park at Kensington gardens and Hyde Park is nearby-nice lido there in the summer and fairly cheap entrance fees. Try to book for a weekday as there are lots of tube works at weekends. Also look at the 2 for 1 offers if you are using the train to get to London.I've been trying to book a mini holiday and seem to have been out priced when it comes to butlins etc and then I came across this thread. Fairly cheap things to do in London with the kids would be visiting the zoo, particularly if they like animals. To get there, you could get the tube up to Regents Park and walk through the park(possibly have a family picnic if it's a nice day). I think it takes around 10 minutes or less to walk through there, and it is quite a pleasant walk. But make sure you get 2for1 vouchers beforehand, as an adult ticket alone for an is around £20 on the door. You could aso visit the aquarium, which is next to the London Eye. And possibly the National History Museum as entry is free, and it's quite educational and not too boring. There are also a load of other free museums but may not keep the kids too amused. All these locations are simple to get to via the tube though. Another place to visit in London is Covent Garden, it's full of shops and there's loads of different places to eat. And there's usually a load of street performers to keep the kids amused, and it's generally a nice place to visit.
Also I live near Legoland(just got offered a job there lol
), and think it may be a little difficult and costly for you all to get there from London. But I think in order to do so, you would get the train from Paddington to Slough(I'm not sure if it goes straight from Paddington to Windsor), then get another train or the bus upto Windsor (191 bus goes directly to Legoland entrance). Or, I believe you can just get the 702 bus from London and take that over to Windsor instead of getting a train halfway but I'm not sure if it actually takes you directly to the Legoland entrance(you might need to get another bus from Windsor to Legoland), so you will have to look that up.
Hope this made sense, and possibly helped a little. Good luck.

We have stayed in the Tolworth travelodge when doing Chessington. Usual standard rooms, and a short walk (about 5 mins under the main roundabout) to the station (Tolworth) then about 6 mins on the train to Chessington South - it is then about a 10 min walk signposted. Tolworth normally has the £9 rooms. Good brekky at Tolworth (had eggs and sausage as well as the usual cold stuff) - and kids up to 18 eat free, so although £7.50 is a bit steep for brekky, £15 for four isn't bad. Not much going on near Tolworth itself though.
We also stayed at Euston, and I had low expectations, but it was fine - least it is handy for the M&S over the road. We did Slough hol in express rather than travelodge (for legoland) and used to get the train over (takes about 10 mins - every half hour I think), then sometimes walk to the hospital 20 mins and get the local bus (you can get local bus from town centre but we like a walk). There is an express bus but this is about £4 a ticket, and the local bus was (I think) about £1.50. Big 24 hour tesco in Slough is handy if on a budget too. There are fast trains into London. We also did Staines for Thorpe, travelodge and Staines good, but Thorpe was for older kids. Again, a bus goes from Staines to Thorpe - takes 10-15 mins and wasn't expensive.
The main thing you have to watch out for if moving about is that the travelodges will not let you store your bags under any circumstances, so we had on occasion, wished we had booked another £9 room for the next night, simply to store bags. You can store them at lego, chess etc. but the lockers are for a "largish day bag" not a big rucksack, plus they cost.
Finally, Kew is also quite close - with a travelodge (think they call it Brentwood) walking distance (10 mins) McDonald's next door. Kew worthwhile if you can get 2 for 1 tickets (which I think we got with South East trains) as kids get in free, and it is worth the money (imo) - there is a big kids play area outside and inside.
There are maps on the tfl website to get you familiar with the stops and also timetables on national rail that I was surpised do these smaller stops too.

Any suggestions of a Travelodge within 90 mins max from Manchester? ideally approx 60mins. Already got liverpool booked. Ideally with a free car park or a low cost one

I know there is three in Blackpool (although may be a bit far not sure), all priced at £19 at the moment (for April onwards) so there is a good chance they will be £10 rooms!
-Im planning to book 1 night in Wrexham travelodge for June, works out cheaper than camping!! (and less mess, and its close to LlAngollen!)
Also hope to book a room in Blackpool for the start of April.
Just want to point out, anyone who is visiting the Pleasure Beach, or plans to visit there, stay in the Blackpool South Promenade travelodge as it is literally 1 min walk to the entrance!0 -
