Business rates IS a tax as we receive no servcies for paying it.I also pay Council tax on my home so I do pay for waste services. With the waste carriers licence I or the customer are expected to pay twice.Wrong , in fact you do become Carbon Neutral if your burning wood as a waste product.Just had a letter this morning from the Carbon Trust sayiny there are no grants available but interest free loans to help companies become more enviromentally friendly.Wrong again , we do recycle glass from old windows which go into a skip ,which we have to pay for.You didn't read my posts did you, either that or didn't take it in,
I have a 13yd enclosed skip that is emptied as and when I wish..
I transport my waste from the job to the skip outside my workshop⚠ 2014 - COUNTDOWN TO INDEPENDENCE ⚠0 -
I ask again, how will making people pay for a waste transport licence stop fly tipping? What are you studying?⚠ 2014 - COUNTDOWN TO INDEPENDENCE ⚠0

New research has shown that burning wood is not as carbon neutral as first thought, because, it has been calculated that to offset the carbon produced by a very small home fuelled by wood burning needs around 63 acres of land to plant trees on, cutting down two acres each year for fuel and replanting as they go.
May be worth while you e-mailing the Carbon Trust and make them aware that they are wrong, I'b be interested to see what their reply would be.
Well why make the point earlier, that all your waste goes to landfill if you do recycle?
Maybe I didn't make it clear enough, where do you think the skip load of rubbish goes? I am a resposable business, I pay for skips and I can assure you that when they leave my premises they go straight into landfill. You seem to have this Romantic view of armies of people trawling through waste and recycling when in truth nearly all of it goes in landfill (building waste).
I did read your posts. But you are doing so illegally. Therefore irresponsibly.
Not at all, I get rid of my waste responsably , just because I don't pay for a waste transport licence doesn't make me irresponsable at all, your just being perdantic.0 -

Environmental risk, if you must know.
Waste transport licences were bought in as an aid against fly-tipping, it was designed so that if a commercial vehicle was stopped and waste was found the driver/owner could be prosecuted for not having a WTL , sorry but your the confused one...
"Studying Enviromental risk" hope your not hoping to get a career in that as you may be waiting for a job for years. The years of the non-jobs have ended and thank God they have...
I could tell you were a prospective Public Sector non job applicant .... Good Luck0 -
I could tell you were a prospective Public Sector non job applicant
I can tell you there is not enough money in the public sector for me to consider a job there.⚠ 2014 - COUNTDOWN TO INDEPENDENCE ⚠0 -

Better change subjects pretty quick then...;)0 -
I have sometimes had work done by a contractor at the end of which I agree to take the rubbish to the dump for a cheaper bill. I currently have a back door, a shower screen and a shower which belongs 'in a museum' in need of a trip to the dump: sadly the back door won't fit in the car!
Sometimes when I'm given the choice I'll pay for the contractor to remove it.
If the shower screen and back door are in a usable condition then list them on freegle and ask folks to take them away. Remember that your local council can collect bulky items from your home.
Waste has to be handled correctly - I can remember one of my jobs for my previous employer involved sorting out the documentation for various waste bins, we had special waste, clinical waste, general waste and chemical waste to dispose of. I can remember when the waste carrier that we used for clinical waste didnt dispose of it immediately but instead stored the bins at the incinerator needless to say a fine was handed down because we were deemed not to have disposed of the waste correctly. There were times when someone had to travel with the waste to watch it go into the incinerator such was the nature of the waste materials being disposed of.
I run a small business from home - all my paper gets recycled, I recycle other stuff too so all I have to dispose of each week is one small bag of waste. Thankfully I don't need a waste carriers licence.
OP..maybe you should speak to your local council environmental health department to see what they have to say about commercial waste disposal.
CynicalScotsman your degree sounds fab..Environmental Risk is a good subject and I am sure will prove useful for non-public sector jobs certainly in the UK and maybe in the public sector around the world.0 -
Waste Transport License in our area was £240 in 2008 for 3 year period. Duty of Care Cert from enviromentally friendly tip is free AND TRACEABLE. This covers the client who has instructed you to remove their waste.
Tipping cost is £102 inc VAT per tonne.
Anything removed whilst conducting building works/repairs should have an asbestos risk assessment before removal.
You chuck asbestos into your skip and the skip people will be in touch PDQ!0 -

Good point about a council collection: I need to find one more bulky object for disposal to make it most cost effective. They charge £15 for up to 3 items.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Thanks for all your replies and i can see i've caused some serious debating!!! At least i know now i'm not the only one in this boat - just wish the 'people in charge' would focus on the crooks rather than the hard working!
According to the 'law' basically everybody i know should have a 'waste carriers licence'......£££££££££££££££££!?!
Is there a self-employed trade that doesn't need one!?!0
