Small Business...Waste Disposal!?!

  • I have a garage where i can store waste until i have enough to justify the charges (i guessing it's not priced on weight?).

It is annoying when some people are sitting back and living off the government while other people are willing to pay taxes, want to work but live is made extremely difficult.

However much I agree with you wanting to work, its also important that people respect the environment and ensure waste is disposed of correctly, the Carriers License and associated requirements of such a license are one way of ensuring that it is disposed of correctly.

Also, if you are looking to store waste, it would need to be a 'managed waste site'.

Your problem with using your garage will be that you don't have planning permission for running a business from home which is how the Council will look at it when one of your jealous neighbours drops you in it....

And yes its as my old dad said "Theirs thems that willing to work and thems that willing to let them";)

I agree totally with your sentiment but sadly reality is different.I don't have a waste carriers licence and would never dream of fly-tipping and I totally respect the enviroment as do the vast majority of the public.
If the Government clamped down hard on the fly-tippers then there would be less of them doing it, its typical of Government to make the masses pay for the sins of a few.

I disagree. Its not a sentiment, its a reality. Business has a responsibility to treat waste accordingly. The licences required allow for this to happen. The allow for the safe transportation of waste.

Ok so why is it if the homeowner takes the rubbish to the tip its free but if I out the goodness of my heart do it theres a charge?..

Question : If I can take all their rubbish to the tip in one trip and they would take 4-5 trips hows that benefit the enviroment if they do it?

I say again the VAST majority of "Business" are resposible......

Question: What happens to all the money raised from the licenses? Where does it go? Ive tried getting a grant towards buying a woodburning heating system for my workshop, to burn wood waste, shavings etc ,getting rid of a waste product, become "Carbon Nuetral" , just what Nu-labour wanted us to be but can I get any help??? No is the short answer ..Currently nearly all of my waste product goes in Landfill..

Governments love to use the "Carrott and stick approach" to regulation, sadly its all stick and no Carrott

Because as a business you would be paid to do the work. As a homeowner you pay council tax to cover waste disposal.

Your not really getting the point i'm trying to make. The reason for waste carriers licenses are to ensure that waste is dealt with correctly.

eg.... You the builder (without waste carrier license) find random lumps of what 'looks like' rubble, you take this to the local tip chuck it in the general rubble skip. These lumps later turn out to contain PAH's, thus you have contaminated anybody you have came in contact with, and all the rubble in that skip, putting tip workers in danger.

You the builder (with waste carrier license) realise these random lumps are contaminated and thus treats them accordingly. Thus not contaminating anybody or anywhere else.
