Driving whilst eating a Cornetto at the same time?

I will eat sandwiches, M&Ms, crisps & drink from bottles with tops. If OH is with me I will get her to unpack everything and pass it over one at a time, otherwise I will just make do.0

I take the line that as long as I don't mind getting the food all down my front and in my lap, or flinging it all over the passenger seat if I need full control of the car, then I can eat anything.
If I'm dressed smart then I won't be eating chow mein at the wheel
Saw a guy in a suit driving his brand new BMW 760iL eating something like that out of a tub
Wanted to smack him because he was probably spilling it over that lovely car more than anything else :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

crazy? Fact is she was probably charged correctly but the resources used to get the conviction???0 -
I had a colleague once who smoked while driving - until the day he had to put a fire out on his back seat - the discarded fag end, still lit, got dragged into the back of the car. Good job his kids weren't in the back.
I HATE to see parents with kids in the car smoking.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Motorway = crisps and perhaps a coffee.
Why on a motorway as hazards can crop up just as much and only difference is you will be at a greater speed0 -
IMO smoking whilst driving is dangerous - you're holding something that's on fire and not only that you're inhaling a mind altering chemical (albeit breifly)
I smoke, but never whilst driving (and never in my car at all actually)0 -
A lot of over zealous plod will book you now for eating at the wheel. There is no direct law against the practice. There has been no test cases as far as I know to test this new fad that the police have only recently started doing.
Eating an apple can be likened to winding down your window or adjusting your radio etc.
IIRC they have actually had convictions - all they need to do is show that you were not in a position to be in proper control of the vehicle.
Drinking a can/cup whilst driving is going to take one hand off the wheel for a prolonged period, and interfere with your vision.
Opening say a mars bar is likely to require both hands or one hand and your teeth.
There isn't a specific offence, as there are several catch all offences depending on how serious it is - iirc the same ones that used to be used for things like mobile phones before they got their own specific offence include not being in full control, careless driving, and dangerous driving depending on the circumstances.
If nothing else it gives the police a perfect excuse to pull you for general vehicle/driver check, especially as they can't see if what you're eating/drinking is a can of lager, coke, or marsbar.
My policy is simple - If I'm going on a long drive I'll have something like imperial mints in an open bag by the handbrake/gear stick, that I can reach into without taking my eyes off the road, can pop into my mouth without any need to unwrap them, and can drop if need be without any worries.
For anything else I will pull over somewhere safe - if you don't have time to pull over on a trip when you're thirsty or hungry, you're not allowing enough time for traffic, or the trip in the first place.0 -

I assume they meant "on an empty motorway " rather than "on the M25 at rush hour"0 -
People have gotten into trouble for eating/drinking at the wheel.... I wish they'd do the same to smoking!!
I mean..... If you try telling me that holding a smouldering cigarette, peering through a cloud of smoke and trying to drive at the same time, isnt a risk then I dont know what is! Also I don't know of even one smoker who uses the ash tray!! instead the window seems to be the popular alternative!
A car is a mode of transport, it is not a mobile living room....“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
