Hair-cut-not the way I wanted it!

Hi all,
Paid £30(yes can't believe it either, never paid that much before!) for a cut and blow dry, today 4 hours ago.
Went in and wanted to look like anthea turner from perfect housewifes, exactly like that or as near to it(well aware that is a hair dressers nightmare-make me look like her!!) Anthea Turner is choppy, flicky, lots and lots of 'cuts in', when she walks her hair whooshes from side to side, lovely.
All the hair stylist there agreed(looking at my hair not one of them said it would not be possible)
My hair now cut from the middle parting to my chin, not a single layer, chop in, then at the back and sides (hair past shoulders) lovely and flicky.
It was hair- sprayed to an inch of it's life and looked awful, I have never complained before( I am the one that goes to a restaurant and has a lousy meal but when they come around and ask I say -oh yes lovely, head down, pay and never go there again!!
Anyway, a work colleague went there, had a fab hair-cut, so I decided that I would also choose the same hairdressers today, first time.
The stylist said I was quiet- I said too much hairspray and could she possible chop in more from the parting to the chin as the back and sides had it but it seemed very straight from top to chin- her answer-
Quote- NO, iIF I DO THAT YOU WILL LOOK LIKE A HELMET.
She roughly and promptly combed out the hairspray and walked off to attend another customer.
I was left seated, got up, went to pay and left, outside I cried.
The stylist never looked at me or spoke to me again.
My work is close by so went there to ask them what they thought- we all agree it is a lovely cut from the chin down and needs to be cut in more from the top to the chin, basically it is not what I had in mind, what I wanted and 4 hours later am still upset.
I have washed it, styled it, I just can't get over £30 for something I did not want!
What shall I do? My work mates said that if she knew it was not going to look as anthea turner then she should have said at the beginning, that she seems to have 'added her own slant to the hair cut'

£30 is good though IMO !!!! ( well it would have been if the cut was what you had wanted !)

Id just leave it at that and go elsewhere in future ! but then im not very confontational IRL :(

Go back in and talk to the manager, explain that you told the woman what you wanted and she didn't do it. I hope you didn't tip!

nor am I rachie, that is why when she said o.k? I honestly would have just left it but then I could really see that what was in my mind and the photo we looked at of the hair style was not the same as what I had on my head!!! xxx

GO BACK!! I am a hairdresser and i would be mortified if one of my clients cried when she left the salon. She was very unprofessional in the way she dealt with you and you must go back and complain other wise she will keep getting away with it. Ask to see the manager and agree to some sort of compensation be it monetry or another appointment with a different stylist. Tell her/him that you have lost confidence in the first person who did it. Did you get the same stylist as your work colleague? If not ask for the same stylist. You have every right to complain as you are not satsfied with the service you have received. Remind them calmly that bad word travels far quicker than good. It really makes me angry when stylists think they know better than you when they have never even cut your hair before!! good Luck and don't let them talk down to you, stand your ground and let them know you are not happy.

thanks foxybabe, the stylist as soon as I said about the hairspray and started saying about there is no flick, chop from top to chin, she just combed out the hairspray and moved on to her next customer- I was ice!
Yes, same stylist as work colleague.
I was so upset that I had involuntarily upset her, I suggested to my work colleagues that I was going to go back and apologise to her for upsetting her proffesional ideas- they all screamed no at me, that she should have not acted that way towards me!!
I understand entirely that anthea turners hair is not mine, hers does this and that and maybe mine does not and could not look like hers- the stylist should have told me that there was no way that it was going to resemble what I had set my heart on looking like!!

Can you go in there with one of your friends, a hairdresser cut my hair uneven once and my friend took me back and pointed out the mess, she tidied it up, evened it out and refunded my money.

Usually after my DH takes my son to have his hair cut I take him back to point out where it's a bit uneven. You are paying for a service, not for the hairdresser to do whatever they want.

yes that is why it is true what one of my work friends said- the stylist has taken on board the idea of the style but put her slant into it and it has got two hair cuts into it, straight from top to chin and then all flicky, choppy and lovely the rest!! xx

Some stylists can be a bit pretentious about their work, but that is still no excuse for rudeness, she should have spoke with you and tried to ensure that you were happy when you left the salon. (I wouldn't have given her a tip, other than to be more polite in future!!). It is possible that your hair was not right for the style etc but that should have been explained before they started cutting so you were fully aware of what you were getting. Go back and see the manager and sort somthing out. Don't be intimidated and stand your ground, you are entitled to good customer service.

Hi victory - same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. Went for a cut and highlights. At the hairdressers we were discussing the colour of the highlights, finished up with her saying, "just tell me what colour you DON'T want." Which, I have to say worried me slightly. Then discussing the cut (I wanted mine like Anne Diamond's AND i took a picture along) - fine, no problems with the cut.

Highlights were done and then she set to with the scissors. You know when something's not going quite right don't you? So I said to her, "its a bit short, isn't it?" She had another look at the picture and said "well it's not a very good picture" If I could have I would have walked out at that point, tears welling up - but I thought it'll grow again. Then she started blow drying my hair. "Where are the highlights?" I said. She pushed my head forward and said "there they are". When I got back home H said what the hell have you done with your hair (hadn't told him I was going). Burst out crying. Following day I went back, with H as backup and said I really wasn't happy with what the stylist had done. Within 5 seconds the Manager had my full refund out of the till. I think she must have realised how unhappy I was the previous day.

So my advice, victory, is go back and complain. I'm sure they will be really understanding and if you're happy for them to have another go, fine. If not ask for a refund.

    Speak soon xxx
