Windows 7 Service Pack 1

There is absolutely no point getting worked up trying to install Service Pack 1 in a desperate rush. There's almost nothing in it that you haven't already got installed - if your machine is fully patched. Leave it until the dust settles, since it will undoubtedly be a prerequisite to some future updates...

I updated yesterday a few hours after it popped up in windows update, said it would take 30 mins but actually took 40 (though 30 of thoes were just it downloading, which I suspect is because the servers will have been pretty hot since it was it's launch day).
as for it not showing up to some of you, microsoft release it is batches so it will show up over the next few weeks, but as John Gray says if you are fully up-to-date there is no reason to rush to update to SP1 (esp since it isn't the fastest update, and you will still get all updates without having SP1), but if you have 30-40mins spare I would, it certainly wouldnt do any harm, and once it's done it's done, you dont have to think about it anymore.
also it may look like it has 'frozen' (ie gets to a percentage and stays there for a minute or 2 (esp on the restart)) dont just turn off it's power impatient, just let it do it's thing.0 -

Nah , its slow cos it spends all day using SearchIndexer despite not having it on. I changed my Index options in control panel to use another disk, and it cut down my "Download" more than half on my second machine. But of course Richie 'tboro  has a SSD on one of his and his was 75% quicker ....jealous.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Overview courtesy of Windows Secrets, they think it's a bit of a non event, 'cos Win7 was pretty good from the start.

I sure do love common sense. There will be updates to fix the problems they find in SP1. Which will require SP1 to be installed.0 -
You know what ? .. .. back in the day, we used to whine about SP's that came down and left the legacy carp splattered all over and archived [ kept SP1 then SP2 then etc ] a million times just~in~case and you ended up with a seriously bariatric drive. I suspect install time is taken up by a no fault install leading to an unnecessary archive of backup files that may be needed.
 debitcardmayhem, two yer sod .. .. two of [ C: &
] them SSD thingy's, they're on a machine I never use, well its used all day every day as part of the NAS, it's running 7 Ultimate cos I future-proofed with the extra networking features, but primarily is the grand-kids that use it, and it keeps the ankle biters off my kit.
A bit OTT but I had the English pfennig's bucksee when I built the HTPC and put a pair in to avoid any streaming issues.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I could'nt tell the difference - and you talk the the proper-like Boro Lingo, you've got cooth M8 " :beer:Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
