  • hi,

I have been with first direct for 13 years. they sometimes make a mistake but always rectify it quickly.

I was charged for going overdrawn once.....but I made such a fuss they refunded the money...I phoned them and asked for my statements for the last six years. The woman said is that for bank charges....they must be receiving a lot of calls!

The service for statements is free......

    Hi

I have tried to claim £635 back from First Direct (I have not included any interest). After only the first letter they have offered a settlement of £540. Should I accept this? Can I write to them and accept as a partial offer but threaten court action for the rest? If I do this are they obliged to send me the £540?
I'm not greedy but due to my debts need all the money I can get, but I don't want to not accept the offer and end up with nothing.
    HELP!!!!!!
One day I will be debt free and fat free!:grinheart
  • Requested last 6 years statements, which they sent, in 42 separate envelopes! think the postman thought we were going mad. Sent off first letter on 1 march and received standard "we will respond in 10days" dated 9 march. No reply, so sent 2nd letter on 20 march.

Asking for £2100 without interest - do they normally not reply within timescale?
  • I've 2 accounts with First Direct and sent a letter claiming just under £4,762 2 weeks ago and today received an offer of £3,794!

I'm unsure as to whether or not I should accept, should I press for the full amount? I'm really tempted to take the cash and If I press for the full amount I may end up having to move banks, which is something I don't want to do.

Personally I would not accept there offer, they made me an offer against my claim, which I refused, filed a court claim against them, which they put a defence against, last week i got an offer letter for the full amout of my claim minus 80.00, which they said was out of the six years time frame. It is worth hanging out for the full amount, they will pay up in the end, go for it !!

I'm also claiming these so call "arrangement fees" as far as I'm concerned it's the same thing as a default charge, just under a fancy name. Think the banks are using it to try and get out of paying.

You have to think about it £160 is still £160 that you didn't have. i think that you can still take the offer if you want it. The bank is trying to scare you by continuing its defense.

It sounds like letters have crossed which often happens, however have a read through these previous posts on First Direct and I'm sure you'll find other people who have experienced the same. Quite a few recent posts in the Success Stories thread from First Direct and as you have gone ahead with your claim online you are now entitled to the interest and your court costs on top of your claim.
  • I closed my account with First direct midway through 2004, can i claim from 6 year from today or 6 years from when i closed the account?:o

Six years from when you notify them.

    Hi folks,

I received the acknowledgement of my letter last Tuesday (13th) saying they would get my statements out to me but I've still not received anything (today is the 23rd).

Should I be concerned? (My statement request letter was sent on the 9th)
