Hit a small child

In this instant he was to blame, although I would stepped out of the way if I saw a lunatic on a bicycle hurtling towards us. Kids have a habit of standing where they shouldn't. My maternal instinct would have set in if he'd hurt my child, and yes, I would have probably decked him.

Isn't that lowering yourself to these idiots level though? I try and teach my son to deal with the world's idiots (there is certainly alot out there!) in a calm, non violent way. I would never want him to see his Dad hit another person in anger.0 -

OMG, I can't believe you have kids and you genuinely can't see what you did was wrong. I'm totally gobsmacked. When I first started reading this thread I assumed the OP was a spotty 16yr old on a BMX.
I regularly cycle 16 miles on my commute to work and I would never dream of cycling at pedestrians, never mind small children. Pedestrians are far more unpredictable than any other road users and should be given a very wide berth. In that situation I would have just stopped and let them past. Obviously, that assumes I'd have actually been cycling - I hate nothing more that people cycling on pavements, dangerous for both cyclists and pedestrians.
ps -you say Google does not show an up-to-date picture of the path, feel free to post the address on here, I have access to live Ordnance Survey mapping software that is bang up-to-date.0 -
What is it with cyclists, they use the road and now if a car hits them they want to be able to blame the car driver no matter whos fault it is. Now when thay use a public path it is still someone elses fault when something happens. Seems cyclists have been allowed to develop a mentality wherby although they pay no road tax or insurance for their vehicles they want more rights than those off us that do,(now this will put the cat amongst the pigeons).0

That's not a cat, just a mere fluff-ball off a kitten amongst a colony of vultures ;-)What is it with cyclists, they use the road and now if a car hits them they want to be able to blame the car driver no matter whos fault it is. Cyclists pay the exact same VED as owners of vehicles within the same emissions banding(i.e £0), perhaps we should start handing out tax discs to them with 'exempt' on them?
As for insurance, many cyclists have specialist insurance, note I did not say all or 'the majority', but 'many'. I'm sure the rest would have 3rd party cover in their every day household insurance?
As for this 'public path', the OP has intimated it was a shared use path, not a footpath or path where cycles were prohibited. This has not been corroborated by an independent party so we can only take the OP's word for it at this point in time.
Might want to change your bait before the next cast:D0 -

i.e. the Bell !!
For crying out loud..what next? Expecting cyclists to have lights at night?.....:rotfl:
And just what is it with those bleeding flashing lights cyclists seem to prefer?0 -
I am happy to give priority, but I'm not sure that that's the same thing as occupying the entire width of the path thereby forcing me off my bike?
If that path is not signposted as for vehicles &/or bikes, then its a footpath.
Had it been my child you hit, I probably would have booted you flying off your bike;)0 -
OP sounds miffed that they didn't get out of his way. Bit of ego trouble there, I'd say. They could have moved aside to let you pass but, hey - the world doesn't revolve around you. You were lucky the child wasn't injured. Now put your toys back in your pram and stop trying to justify your daft behaviour.0
