if you saw kids why did you not get of your bike and walk ? you deserved a tongue lashing from the mother for being a moron and a dangerus one at thatReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If I saw a kid running down the path then I understand that they are unpredictable, but they were walking in a row with their mother who had respnsibility for them and could see me coming and I wold have expected to say (a) watch out there is a bike coming and (b) I'm blocking the entire path, that's not very reasonable, perhaps I should make way.0 -
Was just cycling up the path to the cycle park at the top of the hill next to the local swimming pool. Mother was coming down the hill with two children, about 6 and 10, occupying the entire width of the path.
I was going quite slowly (steep hill) and slowed down waiting for them to let me pass, but they didn't move, so I went between them. Unfortunately the six year old moved into my path as I was passing and got hit in the face by my brake lever (no damage done, didn't cry, didn't get knocked over).
The mother was most indignant said I shouldn't be cycling, said I should wait for them, etc.
Any thoughts?0 -

You don't have kids, do you? If you do, I'll be very shocked.0 -

And what you did was reasonable?0 -

either way it would have been sensible to pull over
however whiich way you try to justify your actions
if you had a hit my child youd be carrying the bike homeReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. You waited for them to let you past....so it was them that had to concede?
The path is wide enough for at least two bikes, so it was not me that was causing the obstruction, it was the three people walking in a row blocking the whole path. And as you went between them presumably you didn't move to one side to make it easier for them to 'let you pass'.
The mother was in the middle of the path, I didn't think it advisable to pass on the outside of the children.Maybe if you'd not seen it as your right to go through, and had moved aside for them they would have similarly moved aside.
I couldn't 'move aside', if they want to walk three-abreast it's not possible when anything is coming the other way. OTOH, not walking three-abreast was an option for them.0
