just checked the online banking ... another bit off of the mortgage today so have altered my totals to reflect this :) i wont see any more change till next week ... and then it will be depending on what my wage is ... but i am getting there

slowly learning more about investing , but it really is confusing me i think i need to have more of a lecture session where i can ask questions and get answers ... i get the basics now (i think) but i am a long way off of making any decisions ... but i am also starting to worry about the little bits of personal pensions that i have floating around .... i may need to get a hold of an i.f.a and deal with that soon... i just dont know if i trust i.f.a's ... the one i had previously was just looking for the easiest answer and to get his money and run, and even though it isnt much money .... it is all that i have :(

but i do think it is time to start weighing up more options cause i cant stay the way i am

Why not start making a list of all the things you enjoy, all the things you are good at, all the things you know something about. Focus on your strengths. Don't get too hung up initially with what you think you can make a living with - just note down all the things (however small) that you can do and/or you would like to be spending your time doing. You never know what might suggest itself.

After being ill earlier in the year I came to the conclusion that life was too short to keep doing a job I wasn't happy with and we started making plans to change things. OK - it hasn't quite gone according to plan (with the house sale falling through) but I am still glad to have made the change - I am watching what is happening now in my team and am so glad that I am doing it from the sidelines and not there for the long haul. Am working on alternatives - and I need to make serious money especially if we don't sell the house - but whatever happens I am certain I will be better working to my strengths.

Well why don't you ask them on here/the investments board? It's what it's there for.

Ironically, my parents got an IFA in, and the only thing he could suggest went sour on them...

thats what scares me as well ... i know no one can afford to loose money ... but its scarily scary for me to tempt this especially with my current financial position

well i have just had my balloon bursted :( not the end of the world but it means i am going to have to change my tactics ...

up until now i have made payments to my debt but only after i have paidthe £500 a month extra that i am allowed to into my mortgage, i did this as i was told when i first took my mortgage out that i can overpay up to £500 a month and if ever i have need to i can take it back, i have sadly had to do this on two seperate occasions, once for £5,000 and once for £1,500 ... since the second time ( oh about 8 years ago now) i have made myself promise that if i did it again it would only be out of desperation, so i have slowly paid the money off of the mortgage, with the understanding that it would bring the mortgage down and it would save me on interest ( look at my signature for how much it has came down this year alone ... when i origonally took the mortgage out i was paying over £11 a day) which it has done and will continue to do so

however today i phoned up as i had a query with the mortgage ( was to do with the insurance payments) whilst there i asked how much i had overpaid since April this year thinking thats great i have overpaid that amount and atleast if worst comes to the worst i have money i can get my hands on ... however whilst talking to the girl on the phone it transpires that i cant withdraw the money from my overpayments as it is a fixed mortgage rate ( has been for a long long time now)

its not the end of the world as i dont intend on taking the money out but it removes that cushion away from us ... so now i am going to have to come up with a plan that still pays off the mortgage and ensures that we have some emergency savings ( i was using this money as emergency savings before)

well i spose its best that i find this out now rather than if the day ever arrived where i needed that money and couldnt get it
