hi el. yep investing is a b!tch to do right. I mean if people who do it for a living get it wrong, then it is difficult to know what to do for the best.

I would guess it is pointless saving into isa's now because the rate they offer is probably rubbish.

I have heard of micro investing sites - a bit like angels for business but on a far smaller scale. So you lend a small business some money via the site and then get a return on it... But you would have to research the legitimate ones.

I guess you have to decide how much of your money you want to be safe, how much a bit risky and how much really risky (ie you are virtually sure to lose it). And then look for investments to match.

Maybe look at the services that supply yours?

Ref the job. I thought it was illegal to not pay overtime rate? And definitely the no sick pay, surely you are entitled to statutory sick pay at the very least?

Do you HAVE to get a job in the field you are in now? Would ANY job of the same pay be better? Especially if it allowed you more time to look at other money stuff?

    chev

hey Chev your totally right isa's arnt even keeping up with inflation just now ... so if i were to put money into an isa it would be losing me money ... i spose on one hand its a good job i dont actually have any savings just now :)

i think although i am of the more cautious type of investor variety i still would take risks ... but not (what i class as anyway) dangerous ones ... i dont want to have to work hours and hours of overtime so that i can save it just to loose it ... i know no one wants to loose money ... but right now we really cant afford to loose any

i dont get sick pay for the first three days then i get paid ... but the most amount i would work in a row is four shifts ... so if i was off work sick i would only get ssp for one day .... other than that i would have to get a dr's line ... thankfully i have rarely needed one of them

if it is illegal to pay overtime rate then i have been getting shafted for nearly 7 years .... along with my co-workers ... i only get straight time for everything ... including xmas day new years day etc etc ... the people that have done sleep overs have only been getting £2 an hour they are told that its ok cause you dont work you just sleep ... not in the case of the units i have worked with ... the sleepovers have been woken up several times ... as far as i am aware a law was passed that you have to get your hourly rate for sleep overs ... so all sleepovers were cancelled from then on ... then the staff were informed not to claim it backdated as the company couldnt afford it and they may have to go bust if they have to pay that bill ... and honestly ... i work for one of the best companies in my field .... tragic as that may sound

i truthfully want out of the sector i am in ... i have had enough and am sick of the whole situation but the thing i really want is a straight day shift as i am knackered doing night shifts etc ... i have done shift work for over 15 years now... i think i have done more than my fair share tbh

its been a bit of a bizzare day today ... i helped mil out with reclaiming ppi months and months ago .... she had tried previously and had been told she wasnt entitled to anything so i had a shot and she has so far managed to get over £2.5k ... because of this she has kindly given us £500 ... which is quite handy as we once again need to get the car fixed the egr valve is gubbed ( we think) and i have a bit of a dentist bill coming up ... so in one hand and out the other ... but atleast it managed to get in the one hand so for that i am grateful

As in getting out of there and doing short-term contracts.

Don't worry, I don't mean going round assassinating people... ;)

maybe contracting is something you need to research, do a business plan for it, so you know exactly what you would get. I mean you get a higher rate for contracting, but you have to pay your tax etc out of it so it may not be a goer

thanks chev ... i will give it some thought ...

so i have paid more off of the debt ... not alot but every bit helps ... i'm trying to decide when or even if to start a new diary, thats me nearly 10% of the way there now and although thats a good start i still have a long way to go ... i'm not nearly 10% of the way there in anything but time however i reckon that was more to do with mr el being off for so long, i am slowly catching up with that and have stuck with the decision to start the savings back in january and to just stick with trying to debt the debt payments back to where they should be

one of the problems i would face would be getting a discolsure in my own name ... i have over 5 just now (all current... from various places)... i would have to try and get one in my name only and look into regulation with the sssc etc ...i think i would like to do something else aswell tbh ....

i did have the whole therapist thing going but i found that people were struggling then...i imagine it would be much worse just now

but i do think it is time to start weighing up more options cause i cant stay the way i am
