so pay day today and another wee bit of debt paid off ... i like to see the figures go down and am becoming almost obsessive about it all ... almost but not quite :) i wish i knew how to do spread sheets i would have so much fun with them lol

i have also been learning about the investment side of the money turn around ... ive now read two books and whilst they say different things i like the mix of the two to help me understand it more ... book one was way over my head ... but by the time i had read book two i could understand what book one was trying to say so have paused back over the juicier bits ... but by gum there are so many people that want a slice of whatever portion of the pie you plan on investing in .... i dont know what the route i plan on going down is just now ... but i do know that atleast with some knowledge i can have a bit of a clue whats happening ( or maybe not)

aunty is still very ill ... the infection is back with a vengence and once again it is looking suspect for the leg to remain ... but fingers crossed they get on top of the infection and manage to mover her forward some more ...

work well i think the less i say about that the better just now ... i will say though that every day i walk in there is not a day i enjoy currently ... and its sad as i used to not love my job ... but certainly not dread going in to see what i have to face every time i enter ... i am looking but nothing is out there that is suitable ... and i cant stand the thought of doing overtime just now ... so even though we REALLY need the money the thought of being in there is not worth the pittance that i would get paid

right off to update my sig :) i like this bit lol

you know its strange fw i said months ago if i had any decent spare money i would put it into uranium mining ... and then on night shift last night the news broke about Australia .... and the uranium shares went up quite high ... how much do i wish i had put my money there now lol ... either that or in Italy at 8% ... i have a few others i would think about as well ...

i'm wondering if a second property might be handy to have (eventually) but i think now i kinda have an idea what i want ... just need to tweek it when the time is right :)

The problem at the moment is what is called "counterparty risk" and that is never discussed in investment books. MF Global being a case in point at the moment, but there is so much shadyness in general.

An hour in there on overtime is worth 90 minutes on normal time. Think of it that way.

z sadly i dont get any extra money for overtime:( ... i get single time only ..., including for xmas day new years day etc ... i never earn anything more than single time sadly ... i dont even get shift allowance for night shift ... nothing extra at all ... no pension no sick pay etc etc

there is so much to learn with the whole investing ... and so many pitfalls to fall into ... its no wonder people are losing ( and have lost) a load of money ... scams are us ... i'm almost scared to think about it tbh ... but by todays rate we would be £180 in gas and electricity a month which at £95 a week in income from a pension means we would be up the preverbial creek should we retire with out some sort of planning and investing done ... !!!!!! to do to minimise loss and maximise income though

I must admit, I'm thinking of getting round that by moving somewhere warm when I retire. Spain should be very cheap once they've bombed out of the Euro, but I have been looking around other places too.

As far as investing goes - someone was pushing beta investing recently. Not sure if that is going to confuse the picture though.

hi el. yep investing is a b!tch to do right. I mean if people who do it for a living get it wrong, then it is difficult to know what to do for the best.

I would guess it is pointless saving into isa's now because the rate they offer is probably rubbish.

I have heard of micro investing sites - a bit like angels for business but on a far smaller scale. So you lend a small business some money via the site and then get a return on it... But you would have to research the legitimate ones.

I guess you have to decide how much of your money you want to be safe, how much a bit risky and how much really risky (ie you are virtually sure to lose it). And then look for investments to match.

Maybe look at the services that supply yours?

Ref the job. I thought it was illegal to not pay overtime rate? And definitely the no sick pay, surely you are entitled to statutory sick pay at the very least?

Do you HAVE to get a job in the field you are in now? Would ANY job of the same pay be better? Especially if it allowed you more time to look at other money stuff?
