That's exactly how I am looking at it hypno it can't be avoided as hubby has been really ill .... We will survive .... Were just gonna have to be more careful for the next month or two0

£52 amazon money arrived in my account today from books that i had sold... so £26 has winged it's way to the mortgage and £26 has popped om off to a savings account ... nice way to start a day0
-
That is a good start to the day
I'm quite jealous if you can get away with not brushing your hair every day - mine needs washed pretty much every day and I tend to wake up with a mad 80s quiff :rotfl:
Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
i have to admit i need to wash it every other day other wise it gets soooo greasy ... but i think i get away with the brushing cause it is long now and i can just tie it up .... havnt brushed it yet ... but i will be doing that just shortly
...
when i can get hubby to get out of bed today i hope to get atleast one of my raspberry caney thingys done so that the raspberries grow more upright ... my gardening skills and words just astound me:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Well I use the shower routine to wake up (it's not because I look like I have wrestled a gorilla in my sleep ... honest
)!!!
Happy new diary ... I was a lurker on the old one so I thought I'd sneak out of the shadows and say HELLOOOO!!!
I think the problem with the UK is that people seem to have several 'bad attitudes'
- 'it's not my fault'
- they are very bad at saying THANK you
- they are very bad at being proud and appreciating what they and others do
- 'it's someone else's problem'
- they seem to constantly look for the 'magic feather' that will fix everything (AKA the no effort feather!) ... and this leads them to short term fixes such as over-shopping, over-eating, over-drinking etc.
The whole British gutter press constantly rants on and on about it so everyone out there thinks it is REAL ... makes me mad!!!
However, with FB and social networking (which I am quite new at), I can see that there are good people about, who think it is important enough to stand up and be counted or do nice things for no financial reward or glory. Thank crunchie I do not need to watch re-runs of the Secret Millionaire to know that this is the REAL truth in my world.
OK, rant over ... re-lurking commencing0 -
oh no dont relurk... pretty please ... i am enjoying the debate on this diary just now
your right this country has many major issues .. is it apathy? have we now became people that dont care? can we change this? if so how can we change this?
here's one ... is it really that society is getting bad or is it because there are more of those certain types in society ? and if so why is that ?
now i watched a film a few years ago ... sadly i cant remember the name of it but it really got me thinking and i have spoken to many people about it ( mustve had some deep affect on me) it was luke wilsons brother and it was meant to be a comedy ( it did have funny bits in it) but it really brought things close to home
a guy not very intelligent working for the army .... they want to test cryogenics and he agrees ... he gets put into a cryogenic chamber and is meant to be frozen for i think two years ... however funding gets pulled and he gets left ... 500 hundred years later an earth quake happens and he gets released ...
in the 500 years he was frozen things in society changed ... intelligent working people held off of starting families so that they could have their careers then were finding they were struggling to have kids ... some were chosing just to have one or two kids ... however the non working class the drug ,alcohol users etc were having 6 or so kids at a time ... the intelligence levels of society dropped significantly... chaos within society became the norm ..
so 500 years later when the guy got released suddenly he was the most intelligent on the planet ... and he was asked to try and help out societies problems ... including stopping watering the plants with gatorade ...
it was a comedy and i did laugh .. but i also watched and thought ... ok this is extreme but is this where we as a society are heading?
slightly deep thinking for a monday afternoon lol0 -
well today i spent a wee hour in the glory of my garden ... so much needs done to it and i havnt a clue what i am doing but i love spending time there ... hubby helped me put in stake thingys for the raspberries i have three beds of raspberries ... most people are happy with one ... but i had ordered four varieties not knowing that you got four of each variety .... i gave a whole lot away ( about 6 or so) but that left me with 10 ... now my garden isnt big enough to have them all in the one place so i have raspberries dotted all over in three different places ... last year i didnt bother staking them and they grew all lopsided so today i thought no more and the job is done ...
also planted a rhubarb but i dont expect it to survive tbh cause it has been sitting in a bag since November time waiting to be planted ... but you never know .. also planted some chives in a pot and helped hubby fix one of the border thingys that kept falling down
on sad news the Japanese knotweed is back ... darn i really had hoped it had gone but no it is back ... so we will need to spend time gutting out the land at the backof our garden and trying to deal with what is essentially some one elses problem
soup kitchen this evening ... hubby is off out to buy a chicken so that he can make a curry for the crowd that use the soup kitchen as wel like to give something home made rather than out of a tin and i think thats about it for today0 -
It is nice to have a good old potter in the garden, always lifts my spiritsBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
El - I would like to grow raspberries, but my garden is probably still under water just now
. I have a blackcurrant bush that survives each year and a plum tree
Are they complicated??? like spring ones you don't cut the wood and autumn ones you do??? What sort are yours ...
OK, I'll de-lurk more regularly and probably comment more about your film. I suppose my gut reaction to the situation both social and economic is that with things like forums and t'internet, it is much more easy to spread information and voice opinion (like the governments U-turn on the sale of the national forests). Also the freedom of information act helps as well. The writers of the film could never have imagined that such things would exist and have the impact that they do (a bit like text msgs which were actually not for public use but a way to easily test mobile phones)...
Maybe there is hope that the UK (and the world) is not as the writers of the Daily Mail or The Sun see it and there are pockets of people doing their best for the situation they are in right now. The sooner we get round to teaching basic household finances along with decent sex education to 12-14 year olds the better...
It is a sad fact that my nephew's girlfriend has been awarded a 3 bed council house for her and her son (12 months old). She is only 19 herself and although they are not together, they have a working relationship and share joint care of baba. She did not complete the second year of her BTEC in business admin, and has shown no signs of planning to get a job. Nephew works what hours he is given in retail (he is only 21) and this is normally about 30 - 35. There is no way he can afford to buy a house, nor will he ever have enough points to get one from the council on his own. So his options appear to be 'dodgy landlord fodder' with his mates or to stay at home with Ma and Pa. Something is wrong somewhere ...
Re-lurking (and I'm not an insominac, I'm currently in the US and it is only 11pm over here) ... back to blighty at the end of the week0 -
Hi elantan, belated happy new diary
Erm I think that for a lot of people banks were throwing money at them so they thought it must be ok to spend it. It is SO easy to jus see that you need to pay say £100 a month for a card payment, and not see how much debt that is actually. If you see what I mean.
The way things are in the UK at the moment - ........ I don't know. I think it is whY I am reluctant to think about going back to the UK. I am not the most happy here in new zealand, but it is better than the UK is now in some ways.
On the other hand the level of domestic violence, child abuse, drink driving that there is here, is unbelievable, as is the uncaring attitude to these subjects, that absolutely horrifies me.
On the other hand I can let my 9 and 3/4 DS walk around the neighbourhood selling chocolates and only have a minor qualm about doing so. You can let them wonder on a beach and not worry. It is weird the attitude to children here. You have such extremes....
But it would be nice to be able to return to the UK without a qualm. And this isn't the case. I would worry about the attitudes that they would be already picking up in the uk....
Anyway this is all by the by.
I don't think raspberries are that hard to grow. Just make sure that you put netting over them as the birds like them too!
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?
