Some kindles bought in the USA have an additional screensaver advertising file, although it is possible to remove this, it is a bit irritating.

Thanks for letting me know Superhoop - the link is right, but unfortunately our site is experiencing heavy traffic at the moment (not due to the blog!), so a lot of articles are down.

Please bear with us while the techies fix the problem :)

Thanks Becca, yes that is a really good article. I'm still wavering between Kindle and Kobo although your article has armed me with lots more useful info.

I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure! :rotfl:

I have been trying out one of the tricks offered in this weeks newsletter re putting your photos on kindle. I have them showing up as being on the machine when the Kindle is attached to the computer but when I disconnect it and click on Home and then Menu and then on Alt and the letter Z I cannot find them anywhere. I have transferred them to the Documents folder on the Kindle and I have also tried using both 'Images' and 'Pictures' as the titles for the folders and sub-folders to see if the latter would make any difference, but still without success.

Please can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

    Many thanks.

    Hi everyone,

On the back of all your comments about the difference between the Kobo and the Kindle, I've tested each and written a blog review of my findings:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/team-blog/2012/03/06/kindle-vs-kobo-battle-of-the-e-readers/

I hope it's useful for some. Appreciate any feedback you have :)

    MSE Becca

Great article - agree Kobo technically is head and shoulders above the Kindle, but brand loyalty and ease of use with Amazon website will continue to be cited as reasons to purchase an inferior product by the muggles

PS - you have to be the cutest MSE'er on here

Does anyone know if it's possible to delete the archived books on the kindle. I thought I had deleted some rubbish and found it still there in the archives!
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Yes, you can. I regularly purge the archive of some of the complete tosh I have downloaded. Go into your Kindle account (in the orders section). Then you will see a 'manage your kindle' link on that page. You can then delete the books from there.

Not tried it yet, but think this only works if both Kindles are registered to the one person. I bought one for my mum and registered it to me so we can share books more easily. If this is the case with you then transferring a book is easy.

Connect Kindle with the source book and a you Kindle directory will show in a file manager window. Double click on documents and search for your book. When you find it place your cursor over it and right click and select copy. Now paste the file (book) onto you desktop. Close all Kindle directories and 'safely remove' Kindle from PC window. Now connect the other Kindle and follow the procedure to open document directory. Now select book on desktop and right click and 'cut' and 'paste' file into the open Kindle documents window. Voila.

I was able to copy the free books I'd downloaded from my Kindle on to my Mum's, but not the ones I'd bought: although it was easy to copy the books over, the paid-for ones wouldn't open on the second Kindle, as they're 'registered to another user' (or words to that effect).
