  • My flat is owned by a Housing Association, so am I right in thinking these changes won't affect me?

    Many Thanks,

    Sim.

You will not be affected only lha tenants are affected
  • I'm a pensioner without a private pension, and currently get Housing Allowance of £98.08 per week against my rent of £475 per month.

I hadn't heard about this alteration in HA until readering Martin's Newsletter this week, but after checking I find I'll be worse off by £7 a week from December 2011. This is the equivalent to my pension increases for the last two years.

So much for Mr Cameron's claim that they're not doing anything to affect pensioners.

But there again, the Tories only ever look after the rich.

Is December your lha anniversary date? If so you will get 9 months transitional protection.

My housing benefit went down £10 a week today-I thought I had a few months before I have £10 a week for food.
Thanks condems-hope your banking mates are enjoying their fat bonuses.
Everyone to the streets in London on 26 March and lets get rid of these disgusting scumbags that misrule this country.

Did your hb just drop because it was your lha anniversary date? Or have you had another change?

    Yes, 20th Dec.

  • Hi, can someone help please? we are on hb but have a baby due in May and will mean we are entitled to another bedroom. Our anniversary date is june, does this mean our reductions (30% rate) will come into effect when we let them know about the baby or will we get the 3 bed at the 50% rate??

It's not when you become entitled to an extra room, or when you tell them that the baby is born, but when/if you move into a house with the extra room.

If you have baby in May and remain in same property, you will be re-assessed in June 2011, but will then get the extra 9 months at the 50% rate before being lowered to 30%.

If you have baby in May and decide to move as soon as thereafter, you will go onto 30% when you move as that will be a new claim.

ok, we will not need to move as already in 3 bed house (we are quite fortunate that rent in our village is cheap so the 2 bed rate at the moment nearly covered the 3 bed house.) So when we tell them of the baby we should get another 9 months at the 50% rate for 3 bed house? would this be based on the 3 bed rate from last may when we first claimed or this may when we make the change? thanks for help

I would assume from the article that it would change as it's a change in circumstances.Your entitlement would go up so you would have to be assessed on a new rate. The leaflet I have seen says any change in circumstances that will affect the LHA rate - someone moving in or out/change of address. Will the new lower rates cover your rent?

Dunno, confused myself with it all now :rotfl:. I'm preempting that our landlord is going to put up our rent in May, so just trying to work out what we can afford it to go up to. I think the 3 bed house at 30% rate would just cover our current rent, so obviously if landlord tries to put it up thats where the problems will start guess its a case of wait and see, already lost health in pregnancy grant, sure start maternity grant, baby eliment of tax credits in the last couple of months, whats a bit of housing benifit too, cant wait for the march budget!
