    Please HELP!!

I started to get my life back, then my ex had made a claim for one of the childrens child benefit. Granted. So im in receipt of one child benefit.

I don't understand this - why does he get child benefit for one of the kids? Does he have them an equal amount of the time to you because I thought CB was for the main parent with care?

It must be very stressful for you. I agree with the poster who said go to the docs, as at least the stress will be registered on your medical notes and you can use this as ammunition to enable you to move if need be.

How old are the children? Most children cope with change quite well, as long as their homelife is stable - yours is stable but the stress you are under can't be good for any of you. Can you approach CAFCASS or whoever, and explain that the children will be in a worse position if you CAN'T move, than if you are allowed to move. The whole system is screwed. I mean, how long do they expect you to live there - till the youngest is 18? Crazy. People and circumstances change.

Make an appointment to see your MP - they all do clinics where you can sit face to face with them - and print off your post to show them so that you don't forget anything. Good luck.
  • if someone is claiming ESA and housing benefit currently, and then they are forced to claim job seekers allowance in near future, does
that mean the housing benefit circumstances change therefore its a new housing benefit claim under the new rates?
  • Can someone advise me please, I've been living in temporary private rented accommodation over past 1.5 years due to marriage seperation, my ex is living in our home which has recently been put up for sale. I have been unable to pay the private rent and having to borrow, as I've been told I am not entitled to Housing Benefit, which I received for a short time, because I part own a property. I was asked to prove the property was being sold which I did, I've now advised it is on the market, until the property sells I have no equity from it. I am unaware of LHA, it seems to me my local authority are being particulaly unhelpful with advice. Should I be able to claim HB or LHA in my circumstances ?

no as long as there is no break in there benefit, if there is, and it does not go over a benefit week then there will be no change in their lha rates

the rules with hb are that a property can be disreagrded for 26 weeks while up for sale, or longer if for example the housing market is particularly bad. i feel that you should apply again and tell your la that you are making all reasonable steps to dispose of the property.

A little bit of advice please.

I am currently looking to move out of my family home. I am 25 years old (26 in 2 months).

I have very luckily got myself a 3 bed house for £300 a month, and while I know this is VERY cheap, I still have to pay for council tax and gas/elec/water. I am on 11750 a year wage.

I recently asked a local benefits advisor what I would be eligible for, from my research and various online benefits checkers I was elible, now she tells me I earn too much.

How could I earn too much to get LHA? I am on very little more than minimum wage, is LHA just for people with kids and already receiving benefits?

You should probably start a new thread but:-

    Weekly Income Approx £195

Allowance: Single Person over 25 approx £70
    Wages Disregard: £10

    Excess Income £115

    Apply 65% Taper = £74.75

    weekly Rent = £70

As your Income after allowances and the 65% taper exceeds your rent, you have more income than allowable to get HB.

You've still got £125 a week after paying rent, whch isn't too bad for a single person.

Unfortunately, I am planned to move into a flat in the Wakefield area and housing would have covered the rent, however now, I am £80 short a month, which I have to find from somewhere... :(.

My daughter has been claiming housing benefit for about 3 years now and the council have never sent her any paperwork to reveiw her situation. She has now rec'd a letter saying that she owes them about £6000.00 plus £2000.00 in council tax. Does anyone know if she has to pay this, as it is obviously the councils mistake.
