ok there are many companies you can use but if they are successful will take a percentage (anyting from 10-25%) of what you success fully claim back. i was nervous myself but following the tips and advise on this website have started the claim myself. IMO i would rather i got all the money rather than just some of the money! the whole process is easier than i thought as well

Definitely worth having a go yourself.

There's excellent advice here on MSE and also on the Consumer Action Group website: https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk

The secret is to take a deep breath and take one step at a time making sure you read everything you can and learn from other peoples experience (and also a few mistakes) There are lots of people on the forums to give you advice.

I was very nervous in the beginning and I am far from being an expert but have successfully reclaimed a total of nearly £10,000 back from 2 banks and currently in the process of claiming back a further £300 each from 2 banks.

I have also helped a friend to claim back £1000 from his bank.

All the sites I've seen that reclaim for a fee, have charges that are between 25% and 40%. Most of them seem to have been set up by people that have claimed their own charges, and now want to cash in on others claims.

All the advice and support (including all the templates and legal stuff) you need, are free on this site, and consumeractiongroup. I recommend doing it yourself instead of paying an extortionate amount of your charges to someone else for a process that is not too difficult.

i understand everybodys views about using these companies ....BUT...

I for one don't have the money to lay out to pay for the small claims court fees (whether you get them back or not you have to have it to start off with)

If this company that takes the interest as payment gets you ALL of your actually charges back your not out of pocket, whats the difference between doing it yourself and taking a settlement figure before going to court and going to court and getting the interest as well and paying that to somebody for the service they have provided?.....there is no difference...only choosing where part of your money goes to instead of it being taken from you.

We pay people for services that we could probably do ourselves every day of our lives for whatever reason.

I would have thought that people who are actually thinking about using these companies are to be applauded for acting against the banks not being made to feel inferia or dumb by relies to their posts for not doing it themselves.... it still gives the same message to the banking industry that we are not prepaired to put up with these ridiculous charges.

In my case i have 2 old closed bank accounts with my ex-husband one of which i feel due to the charges was at least 50% responsible for the loss of our house and unmeasurably responsible for the eventual demise of our marriage. these account go back to the limit of the 6 years reclaimable and to sit and work out the interset on a monthly basis would be such a headache....if this company is prepared to do it i'm more than happy to let them have the interest as payment.

Without the help of one of these companies i REALLY feel that i wouldn't bother claiming back my charges and that really isn't what this cause needs...it need statistics at the end of the day to get the laws changed.

I have a 16month old son who gets every bug available and into everything all day everyday (broken off from this post six times already), i get the odd few minutes when he decides to allow it so i enjoy my evenings to relax (not after pity or remarks motherhood is like that for some)

I must applaud everybody who has gone through the process of doing it
themselves or used a company on their behalf and MSE for bringing this situation to so many peoples attention.

I personally haven't decided which company to go with, so going back to the original post in this thread ....has anyone used any and got a result or has anyone found a better rate than payment than 25% or the whole of interest?

I want to reclaim bank and credit card charges but cannot face doing it myself. I therefore want to hire a specialist, but how do I know who is a legitimate company?
Does anybody know a good company I can use who won't abuse the personal information ie; bank account details etc. that I give them and also who won't charge the earth.
    Thanks

    From Martin's article....

A growing number of law firms have recently started jumping on the bandwagon to sort through cases. In general, I wouldn’t bother; simply do it yourself through the Small Claims system and don't bother using a law firm. However, if your case is more complex and/or you simply wouldn’t do it yourself, then bringing in a law firm is a reasonable last resort.
If you are going to use a lawyer, then ensure you don’t pay any fees upfront, or if you lose, and ensure you fully understand the charging structure. Some of the firms advertising services are ChargeClaims, Robertson Holbrook and Bank Complaints, but please note they are listed here for your convenience and their listing does NOT imply any form of recommendation.
  • Has anyone had any dealings with this company. I have given them all of the information they need for both my sons account and my account. They have responded regarding my sons account and have been in touch with Barclays but the bank wont deal with them and have sent their response directly to me saying the bank statements will be with me within two weeks. I have e mailed Robertson Holbrook on a number of occassions with no response and today rang them and the receptionist could not put me through to anyone from the company and could not help me only accept to say that she is sure that I will get an e mail soon. I explained that it is now worrying me that they have all of my bank information but she said that she couldn't help and didn't really know what to say to me. Anyone else had this response. Julie.
  • Sorry Juliescats so far I haven't heard of anyone using one of these companies. Martin does mention Robertson Holbrook in his article but not as a recommendation.

has arrived in my inbox, it seems this company ask for 25% of the reclaim if they are successful.

Seems a lot to give away but to date havent started my claim due to over working ... anyone experienced this company or got any helpful comments about it??

  • Just wondered if any of you have used a company to claim charges back on your behalf. I am currently using three seperate companies for different accounts and will let you know which is the best when all settlements have taken place. Roberson Holbrook appear the best as they claim back all your charges allowing you to keep 100% of them whilst pocketing the interest for themselves. Im also using getbackbankcharges.co.uk and chargeclaims.co.uk. they both levy a 30-40% service fee but calculate interest on your charges at 29%. Chargeclaims appears to be the worst as the claim has been going for 90 days and they still havent managed to get statements from my natwestbank whereas the other 2 companies are well on the way. If anyone has used any others or the ones mentioned I would be very interested. Thanks.

    Dan.
