I was wondering if anyone was still waiting for their letter from Halifax?
My account has been credited but do I need to wait for the letter before requesting a cheque?0 -

I'm still waiting for my letter too. However, I rang 0845 120 5557 (mortgage general enquires), enquiring as to why my mortgage balance had gone down, and then the gentlemen confirmed the 'goodwill' payment. For me it was a lovely £1800. I then asked for a cheque to which he said was fine and will be despatched within 14 days.
He also said that I might receive the cheque much sooner as the demand for the cheques has been low compared to what they were expecting (not suprising if they haven't mentioned the possibility of a cheque in the letter, as people have noted here...)
ps. I previously rang the number given by another member earlier in this thread and got a very snotty woman who wouldn't even look at the account as I haven't received the letter yet. So use the general enquires number as above.0 -

I have not received my letter but phoned at the start of the week and requested part payment of the 'goodwill' payment by cheque with the remainder to be used to reduce the balance of the mortgage and recalculate future monthly payments.
This was not a problem. Was told cheque should be here within 14 days.0 -
Sorry to be so thick about this, but now that so many people have received their letters i am hoping that someone can help me work out how much i might be in line for. I don't want to be counting my chickens but ...
We had roughly 140K left on a repayment mortgage when we came off of our fixed with about 19 years left in June of 2009. The offer letter has the paragraph mentioning the base rate plus 2%.
If, (and i do mean if) we are entitled to our money back because we were paying too much interest is it a straightforward difference between 2.5% and 3.5% of outstanding mortgage for the 23 months until we remortgaged last month? Or should i go back to a mortgage calculator and work out the difference that way.
By my sums 2.5% interest is £418.50 and 3.5% is £585.90 for a difference of £167.40. Thats almost 4K when you take it over 23 months.
But if i go to a mortgage calculator and feed in the two interest rates 2.5% comes out as about £776 and 3.5% comes out as £847 for a difference of only £71 a month, which is a miserly £1700 (I want champagne, not fizzy wine!!!). Is that just because part of that is interest and part is capital repayment?
So sorry if i am rambling, i did phone a nice man (boy?) up and he told me to wait for my letter *if* i received one!!!0 -
That's rubbish - they should be able to tell you if they've made a payment to your mortgage. I've not got my letter yet but I can see that the balance came down at the end of March (I make a note of the balance every month). Ring them back and hopefully you will get someone else - ring the number that someone posted above or perhaps ask to speak to Mortgage team
My payment was for the difference between 3.5 and 2.5% for the relevant duration. I worked out how much interest I paid during the period and how much Interest I would have paid at 2.5% - the difference gave me a rough idea of how much my payment would be (£859) but my mortgage calculator only calculates interest on a monthly basis rather than a daily basis (which is how most mortgages work), I got a payment of £850.0 -
Were still awaiting both balance to go down and letter. Ug.
Wonder if its done in order of a regional, surname, easiest to calculate, mortgage type.....0 -
mau -phone up and ask them0
