I'm not saying it hasn't crossed my mind to report these people but in some cases we are talking close family. I have never had the need to claim benefits, always worked since 15 and always paid my taxes but others in my family have not been so conscientious. Plus very old friends in the case of the birth cert thing.

TBH at this rate I won't ever own my house either as I am in a mass of negative equity! But that's not the point and it was my decision to purchase at what I suspected might be an inflated price.

Ps Lucy my sister also had new kitchen and bathroom fitted to her place, as well as a grant for paint to re-decorate the place when she moved in.

It is disheartening, especially as they get to choose WHICH kitchen/bathroom they would like, the colours, the flooring not to mention the labour involved. It costs £1000's to re-fit and I would love a new bathroom in my place.... not that it needs doing but I would love one all the same... and it's no different to these people living on benefits, they get a new bathroom because it's TIME to get a new bathroom not because it's falling apart!

Anyway, I sound bitter and really I am not, I am all for money going to the disabled people that aren't fit enough to paint a wall let alone do general DIY. I support the sick, those that have terrible illnesses and can't work ... but not your average woman, who in her 40's has 4 kids, a hubby that only claims to work 16 hours per week yet she can afford to jet off on a long haul holiday for 2 weeks over the Easter break (the most expensive time to travel) AND get paid for it by deduction of my taxes and all the other employed persons reading this...

Lucy...Once I get on my soapbox there's no stopping me so for now I will just say well done for giving up the fags. I remember reading one of your early posts when you said you thought it would be impossible! I will be smoke free for a week tomorrow, but going strong!

Just made some basic comments! Don't beat yourself up by comparing yourself with friends- it's pointless! Everyone had their own financial concerns and worries (or head in the sand!). I ALWAYS make my friends go to places with discounts and they appreciate it! I always sign up for chain bars (like All Bar One etc) and often get offers that way (including an invite to an opening with a free bar- approach with caution!)

Anyway, do what you need to do and don't worry too much what people think. Those that matter don't mind!

    EDIT

Oops! Didn't realise this was 40+ pages! Ummmm suspect this might all be defunct!
