Its me, 3 teenage kids and the dog x

The problem is mostly waste...I start work at 3 so have meals prepared for the kids so that they can just reheat when they are hungry. 9 times out of 10 what ive cooked is still sat on the side and they have made themselves something totally different! I work 5 shifts 1 week and 2 shifts the next so its a huge issue. Think I may just buy a large chain and padlock the freezer!
    I seriously would:D

Explain to them you are spending far too much on food and what you leave HAS to be their dinner or else

  • Right - so that is three of us starting a spending diary on Tuesday (1st March) Anyone else want to join us?

I should, I think it would make me spend less if I could look at the list of stuff I have already bought.

I am going to look out a note book to use;)

life in termoil Try the Grocery Challenge. I've dropped from £400 a month to under £200 in 2 months. The support is great. Taking packed meals is great. Also lots of easy 'treat' recipes if you've got a sweet tooth.

If the kids eat something completely different, why don't you just leave things in the freezer and they can take out what they want rather than wasting what you've left out? Not sure you can padlock a freezer:)

  • Thanks AnWs Mum, my main problems is more when I am at home and online, as it is so easy to buy stuff with a click or 2 and then when I get the credit card bill wonder why its for so much:( a little book with all my 'spends' would at least keep track of what I bought.

I can't remember where I heard it, but, a tip I heard was to work out how much you want/can afford to spend in a week/month and get the cash out on a particular day/date, then dont get any more out until the next week/month. This only works if you have shops you actually go to, in my case shops are a long way and online shopping is cash free, so it doesn't help me. Although having said that we have a kitty for bread and milk so that we don't have to do a minimum £5 spend for using the plastic.

Rather pleased today, cleared a hot spot that is a magnet for stuff and put a chair in the space, so that should keep that bit clutter free.:j

DH is fitting rain water tub that we bought a couple of months ago, every time it rained recently I said - shame we haven't got the tub connected we are losing all that water:rotfl:
