I want a Kindle!

Hi there guys
Been doing some research on e-readers and kindles so well aware of the pros and cons previously posted. WHat I'm really interested in from people is information about free e-books.
I know that there are lots of classics available for free from amazon and other stores but I would love to be able to "borrow" ebooks. My local library doesn't offer this service and the olther county libraries I've been able to look into do state that you either have to be resident, or you have to show up at the library with ID etc-a very long trip down south to do this seems a tad false economy there!
So does any use any other libraries online where it's possible to borrow for free, or register and borrow without having to be resident or turn up there?
thanks in advance

You can't use a Kindle with ebooks from a library. They are DRM'd and won't work on the Kindle. (There are tips on the internet on how to strip off the DRM but it was too complicated for me and it is illegal).
I bought a Sony Ereader instead although there are others you can use. It only takes a couple of minutes to download a book but you have to do it via a computer.
You can join Herts library online, see:

Don't know if these are any good to you:
Free 1500+ eBooks from Microsoft - there are others mentioned as well
Free ebooks for anyone with an electronic reader
over 11000 free eBooks - these appear to be mostly classics
Probably not quite what you're looking for but have a look anyway.0 -
I love my Sony E-reader and am a member of 4 e-libraries, two of them local (live on the border between two counties), the other two being Bexley and Hertfordshire, both of which let you join online for e-books.What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Quick question and very blonde question, you can't only get books from the kindle store can you? You can use waterstones, tesco etc?
Also, can't see them on tesco direct do you think they will come?
Oh and do you think they will come down in price?0 -

Think of the Kindle store like itunes.
You can buy ebooks elsewhere but they wont be in the Kindle format.
You can however covert them if you know how.
Lots of free books in the Kindle store though.
Amazon backs up all your purchases, and you can read them on your kindle pc ipad iphone etc. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
