    Hi all
I'm also saving to buy a Kindle. Just cant decided whether to pay more and get the wi-fi 3G model or go for the standard model. Can you go online with the more expensive model (ie send emails, access facebook etc), or is that you can just download book anywhere any time?
    Thanks for any help!

Sorry cant advise you but hopefuly someone else can.enjoy your Kindle when you eventually get it.
  • I got mine from Currys yesterday, no point in getting it from Tesco as we don't ever go there anyway :)

I got the 3g version, and i'm glad i did much better!

    Hi,
If I ordered a free e-book from Amazon say Kindle edition would it work on my Sony e-reader or not?

thanks for any information you can give

    Katie

If it says Kindle edition it won't work - why don't you google free books for sony ereader and see if the book is there. There are plenty of places to get free books and if you have a sony you can borrow lots of books from libraries around the country

What about a cheap Android tablet and downloading the kindle app?

The difference is the screen - any tablet or smartphone screen is backlit so if you are reading it for any length of time it starts to hurt your eyes. I have an Android smartphone with Kindle app, as well as a real Kindle, and the app is great for reading a few pages if I'm out waiting for a bus etc, but no more than a few mins. I've read books on the Kindle in one go before!

I also got the 3G version, just because I had the money, bought it in Tesco and thought I'm getting points back anyway. If you have the extra £50 get the 3G, if not the wi-fi is exactly the same just without the internet.

In all honesty, I got Google up on mine and it's so tiny you'd need a magnifying glass to be able to read it. Mind you, I'm probably doing it wrong.....I'm not techno-savvy at all :D

I do love it though and have downloaded heaps of books already and not one over about 70p :j
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

The wifi version connects to the internet via your wireless network.
If you wish toplay with the web browser try the mobile versions of the site.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • Sorry to be blonde but whats the difference between 3G and wifi? just where you can download the books? Also can you download from the likes of waterstones?

I got the Nook Color. I wanted to be able to do a little more Interner browsing, so I went with that one.

3G means it can connect from anywhere, using the mobile phone network. No contract required. You can sync with your purchases and browse the Kindle store. WiFi means you must be in a WiFi hotspot to do this, eg at home if you have a wireless router.

Currently you can only buy kindle books from Amazon, but you can upload pdfs to it to read as well.

    Hope this helps!
