I have a 3G kindle and a cover with a light and it has meant I can read in bed easily for the first time in years! The 3G for only £50 and no ongoing payments is brilliant basically you have access to the internet virtually anywhere. Some pages are easier to see than others but more and more are set up for smaller screens for devises like Blackberries.

There are lots of places doing free and cheap books and it's easy to transfer documents to the Kindle via email and that's also free.

  • Thanks everyone, I thought thats what 3g one was! 3g in my area isn't great but think I'd get that one, as I have the funds.
How can you download from other sites and then read as pdfs?

You have 2 options. Connect the usb cable, kindle appears as a new dusk drive. Simply copy your pdfs onto that drive.
Alternatively send pdf as an attachment in an email to the unique address Amazon give you when you buy the kindle. If you connect over WiFi it will sync for free, if you connect over 3g they charge a small fee.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi all
I'm also saving to buy a Kindle. Just cant decided whether to pay more and get the wi-fi 3G model or go for the standard model. Can you go online with the more expensive model (ie send emails, access facebook etc), or is that you can just download book anywhere any time?
    Thanks for any help!

The wi-fi model is perfectly adequate. I usually know in advance if I am going away, plenty of time to download a book or two before I go. Don't waste your money for the 3g. You won't want to use the kindle for internet access its too clunky.

Love my kindle though, and you will be able to share books soon. They are starting in the US, you will be able to loan books to fellow kindle friends for two weeks at a time.

tesco, at the moment they do not appear to have kindles on their website.

currys have them 5% on TCB for reserve and collect.

if you have some cashback due from TCB you can claim it as amazon vouchers (gives a bonus of 5% of the value IIRC)

Does anyone know what an International Kindle is? May be it is a non UK version, or may be an non US version or even something else?

I was looking at downloading books in French but the site said you need a International Kindle and I'm not sure what I have! (UK 3G version purchased from Curry's)
