  • Started making ice for a get together we are having in a few weeks - with one ice tray I need to start now! Will save about a fiver on buying bags of ice.
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

    :rotfl:That will take forever.

Have you seen that you can buy freezer ice bags? We got some ages ago so no idea how much they currently cost, but they are a bag with little pouches in it for each ice cube. You fill the bag at the top and tie, and leave to freeze, and then pop each cube out the bag as you need it. Each bag only does once as it gets ripped. Worth looking into?

Money making from me - not really. Got screened out of 2 surveys i tried, and i have been kitchen bound again. Following my own instructions to not be lazy and use up rather than buy stuff, i have made 2 batches of breadbuns, one white loaf, and a puff pastry block for a pie for dinner. Pie will be chicken and veg using some of the chicken i roasted the other day, and white sauce to use up some of the excess milk we seem to have. I never know how much to get as sometimes the boys are drinking it, and sometimes not.

Hope you've all had a good week. I feel like I've been so busy with work and haven't been very mindful of saving money but let's think of anything positive I have managed:
-Sent off lots of old CDs that were cluttering up the study to Musicmagpie, and went via Quidco for extra 10% so should be due about £14.50.
-Earned £45 by doing 2 sessions of tutoring this week.
-Have found a website to book restaurants with discounts for when we go to Paris in 2 weeks time. Hotel is booked- I found a cheaper deal than the one I'd previously reserved so cancelled it and booked the better one.
    -Washing dried on line today.
-Booked a financial consulation (for remortgage) to get £20 M&S vouchers, also applied for a credit card that I'll hopefully get £10 M&S vouchers for. We have earmarked them for some nice wine glasses that we can't justify buying at full price.
-Bought a few cheap large frozen pizzas, garlic bread and salad to have the family round tomorrow, cheaper than paying for takeaway or posh food.
-Filled in a claim form to get back £18 in DH's old savings account that he's not used for years.

On the downside, I'd sold a bag on Ebay last week and was so pleased that it sold quickly on Buy it now, but the buyer has emailed to say that it is not black as I'd stated, but dark brown :( I was sure it was black, it really did look like it but she has a good feedback score so will do the gracious thing and take it back and give a refund. Hopefully there will be a free listing day in 2 or 3 weeks time when I'll have received it back to re-list!

Hope you're all enjoying the weekend!
Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams :)

I've finally caught up on my rates on DY! I've done as many as I've got now! but man I have spent a long time reading lol!
Might help me on my way to my next voucher though! I'm about £13 towards my next cash out but it is very slow for me at the moment! Need to find more things to review me thinks!
Apart from that I had a v. low spend yesterday and I'm off to a boot sale now to look for some bargains!

    Hi all.

Have been subscribed to this thread for a while, after being a long/full-time member of the first 'Mortgage-Free in 3' thread.

    Hello TallGirl again btw!

Continuing with the overpaying, thought this might keep me on track.

    This weekend i have:

Found 5p and bagged loose change to take to bank £7.00
Bought some stock to sell on ebay for a good profit.
    Received £3.00 from Quidco
    £99.00 Profit transferred from Ebay

Going to do some business listings on ebay whilst avoiding the free personal listing weekend.

On the downside, work income is due to decrease in the next few months due to NHS changes.

    Today I've:

    * cycled approx 10 miles, saving petrol
    * been to a car boot sale and got a cheap gift for my DH/his friend
    * got a squeezy torch (like wind up but, erm, has a squeeze handle) for £1 at the car boot - we needed an additional one for the emergency kit as we broke the winder on the old one
    * cycled to 2 supermarkets to get what we needed

    Yesterday I:
    * turned off the central heating so now it will only come on when we turn it on, no longer on daily timer
    * got cheap fruit and veg at market (but have bruised and ruined the pears, cycling and bashing them on bumps in the road! :()
    * used my greggs deal voucher to get croissants as a treat for visit to friend's house
    * stayed away overnight with said friend (DH was away) so saved using my elec to make dinner and entertain myself ;)
    * exchanged useless lakeland item for another one - lets see if I was unlucky or not?

    I have...

    Hung clothes on the line
Yesterday's lunch was cheese filched from work (but would have been thrown out if I hadn't taken it!
My desert tonight was slightly burnt custard that I decided not to throw out... strangely it smelt burnt, but tasted fine once I was eating it
Found a cheap present for my mum to accompany my sister's Radley purse. BUT realised that if I post them to Oz this week, it will arrive while my aunt is visiting from Canada.... so I think I might need to find something small for my aunt, as well!!!
Planted some seeds using coir bricks and compost from my heap as the potting mix. I kept some spare seeds just in case they don't thrive, but I think they'll be fine.

My kitchen is being properly measured up tomorrow, it's so exciting!!
