planted loads of veg and herb seeds for hopefully free food in summer,
lunches made the night before and plenty of batchcooking on Sundays for cheap and easy weekday evening meals,
Submitted meter readings and learnt that we'll be paying £10 a month less from April,
Watching the MPG and trying to drive more economically,

What kind of meals do you batch cook?
A while ago we were spending an hour on sunday and peeling / chopping all the carrots, onions and mushrooms for the weeks meals and sticking them in lunchboxes in the fridge for quick easy access.Mortgage Free 22/03/17

well if we've had a Sunday dinner we'll portion up leftover meat/veg. Sometimes we'll cook a big curry/chilli/spag bol /stir fry and save the leftover to have with rice, noodles or pasta. Sometimes a gammon stew in the slow cooker or even just droopy veg in the slow cooker to make a hearty veg soup with home made bread from the breadmaker.
It's normally me who eats this stuff as I work away 3 nights a week so I often take food with me to save cooking in the evenings.
Like the idea of preparing the veg beforehand. We also chop and freeze fruit or veg that looks like its about to go bad as we don't like to waste food. Then we'll make fruit crumbles or some sort of soup/stew#39 - Save £12k in 20250 -
Today I:
- Took lunch to work (Jacket pot, fruit)
- Declined a tempting trip to the shop with a colleague (I would have spent needlessly!)
- £1 cleared on £co
- bought a ticket for Friday's euromillions

Today we cooked a nice meal at home for DH's birthday instead of getting a takeaway or eating out. I tried drying the washing outside too but a combination of mist and bonfire smoke meant I had to resort to the tumble dryer!"Don't sacrifice what you want most for what you want now"

Evening all
Hope you don't mind me joining in? I've not been overpaying my mortgage yet but plan to, hopefully as of this pay day but nit sure if my SA tax savings will eat up all spare cash this month (desperate to get the savings for that out of the way)
But, in the meantime, as it's important to focus on the small thingss to keep the big things ticking over...
1) Mr Shortie and I put up the barrier fencing stuff up in tbe back garden to et some privacy between us and next door which saved on labour
2) Rescued the asparagus bed from the escaping strawbs which I've planted up to give a friend
3) Last top up shop of the month to keep us from take outs / lunches at work etc
4) Bought a super expensive (lol) pack of value choc digetauves to take to a friend's tomorrow instead of a more expensive big bag of dorittosApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
Oh yes, aaaaand.....
- We are going to the £1 cinema tomorrow with the boys. Will take our own juice and sweets with us

Everyone is welcome and I hope you have fun :-)
Tesco Dorittos are just as good! Try grating cheese over them and putting them under the grill for 2 minutes. LUSH.Mortgage Free 22/03/17
