    No pennies spotted today :(

I shopped around a bit online to find a new hedge trimmer for a cheap price, then partially paid for it using capital bonds vouchers. Now I need to go outside and use it :( :rotfl:

    • I walked to shops today rather than taking the car, saving a teeny-tiny bit on petrol.
    • French batons were going for 5p each. So bought a few and wedged them in the freezer.
    • Paid for my grocery shopping today with giftcard received from Tesco for a complaint.
    • Shopped around and switched our life insurance policy to Aviva bagging a neat £100 cashback through confused.com

All these savings go towards OPing the mortgage :-)

Have also been good and done some surveys. Need to get back into the habit as the vouchers are handy. I'm going to go back to trying to do them at lunchtime at least once a week, just to make sure they are moving along.

Seem to be spending a fortune on bits of things recently. All non-essential but seemingly necessary to modern living if you know what I mean (Foundation and Hair products :rotfl:)

I usually buy Body Shop foundation but as there was an offer on this weekend I got 4 for the price of 2. Although had to order a 1/2 price hand-cream to nudge me over the threshold for free delivery as couldn't find any codes for that. 8% cashback has tracked.

I buy a Tigi styling product for my hair. Don't know what it is in the shops but the normal price online is between £10 - £12. Did a search and found somewhere that on bulk purchase came out at £7.70 and based on when I last bought it, the 5 tubes I've just ordered will last 2 years. Works out cheaper per application than Frizz-ease and I think hair looks better as well.

Although my original motivation was more desperation rather than money saving, another MSE thing I did this weekend was wash my hair with Vinegar :o. I have a very bad scalp - disgusting infact. I've tried all manner of shampoos and treatments costing upto £12 a bottle over the years; some have eased it temporarily but none have cured it. Anyway I was reading on several websites about using Apple Cider Vinegar (£1.35 from Mr T's). It does smell but once your hair is dry you can't smell it - hair feels a lot cleaner even though it never felt dirty in the first place, it hasn't dried it out and the insufferable itching has been reduced by about 2/3rds and no snowfall on my shoulders.....hopefully the benefit will continue - and I'm loving the reduced cost.

    Free lunch at work today
    Charging my mobile

Anyone got a an ipad? I was wondering why mine was taking several hours to recharge - after looking at several forums I realised that using my iphone charger was the wrong thing to do - using the ipad charger supplied is much quicker. (And because I feel guilty for having both I feel inclined to tell you that the iphone is actually supplied by work and my ipad was a xmas present :o I would never have dreamed of treating myself to either - although now I can't imagine living without!)

Re Apple Cider Vinegar - google it first as there are a couple different ways of doing it. Most of the advice is to use Organic but I couldn't find it easily. I used a little neat and rubbed it into my scalp, rinsed then conditioned ends and then rinsed with cool water. But others say dilute it, add things to it (like Rosemary) and others say rinse with diluted vinegar to finish. So find out what is best. It does sting a little on the places where I have... ahem..... open sores (sorry) but believe its a good antiseptic - would imagine its awful if any goes in eyes. Used it twice now and am convinced it's made a significant difference.

I've also read it makes an excellent skin toner (diluted) for problem skin / acne.

Just been looking at various figures on my beloved spreadsheet. I record my OP's by type.

I've grouped them as follows and worked out the % contributed by each group to the total OP's I've made (bear with me). So far my OP's have knocked 6 years off the life of my mortgage term.........so

    Salary Bonus 26.59% 19 months
    Being Bothered 10.55% 7.6 months
    Scrimping & Saving 62.86% 3.77 years

What I mean by being bothered is:-
    - Banking Rewards
    - Cashback, Collecting loyalty points
    - Doing surveys
    - Moving money around to earn best interest

What I mean by scrimping & saving is
    - not just spending the cash I have left at the end of the month
    - planning spending and accounting for every penny
    - always finding best deal
    - sometimes going with out something I want
    - setting aside every bit of money

The point of my post - well just to show that although we don't always feel like it - the small things absolutely do make a difference.

It's been ages since I posted here! Love your categories Curlygirl - I might have to pinch them for my spreadsheet if you don't mind?

All I can report is that I've ordered £50 of Homebase vouchers from ShopandScan, so hopefully that will keep the cost of the decorating down!
