  • *Maya* are you still at thread of redundancy? Most people in my organisation have their jobs for another year, but there's nothing in place as yet to replace my funding which runs out at the end of the year :(

i have the day off due to a school inspection, so i am not required and all lessons have been cancelled--its a charade that happens every year -but fingers crossed!

DH has been having some emotional strife--she keeps bursting out in tears for no apparent reason and she has illogical thoughts that she is ill and will die thus leaving SD alone in this world!--she had a raft of tests yesterday that all came back confirming that she is perfectly healthy-could do with losing 10lbs and he body age would be 10 years less than her age of 39.--i have tried to suggest she does CBT on here but she seems to think i am an idiot!!--she will see a shrink and if offered anti depressants she wont take them!!--thats the kind of sense she is making at the moment!--shrinks are psychiatrists and psychologists here--the last time i hit a wall i did cbt and it worked for me but she is not listening!!(shrinks cost 80 quid and hour!)
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.

Oh poor you, having it hanging over you again. :(

Mine is a family run firm so they are doing their best to balance the books to keep us all on. They are very loyal to us all and really don't want it to come to redundancy but they have to make their business work at the end of the day.

  • Morning all. Last day of my leave today. I had already booked to work an extra late shift on Sunday and then got a call yesterday asking me if I could do an extra late on Saturday which I agreed to as every little helps. I had forgotten that I am already booked to do an extra shift next Saturday as well, so tomorrow I start an 8-day stretch . I need to get really organised with the housework and cooking so plan on giving the whole house a really thorough clean today so that I’m doing the minimum at home this weekend.

Made a pie for tea last night with partridge and pheasant given to me by mum and dad and two quail that I had in the freezer bought at 1/2 price. Had it with roast root veg and mash. Kids loved it but they are used to this type of meal at mums, she does a mean pheasant curry, (dad goes shooting a lot and they always eat what he shoots) even OH ate it and he is very dubious about this type of meat. There is some mash left over and some pastry so will make a few cheese and onion pasties for DD2 for school next week. I am having the last piece of pie with HM chutney for lunch today

Planning a soup and pudding tea tonight. DD1 is having three friends sleep over for a film night tomorrow night, as I’m now working will put a curry in the slow cooker (OH will be very please as he loves curry). Will make naans and bajhees tomorrow morning. All of the left overs can go in the freezer.

Off to start the grand clean.

    Enjoy the day
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Good morning all, so glad we are back.

Squeaky, enjoy your scooter! They are great, aren't they?

Last year, we had a chap to photograph the back of the Home and there were scooters parked all along the back waiting to go back into the undercroft: he asked if we could move them. I said, yep, help yourself, just get on whichever one's in the way and drive it out of the way (I was busy at the time ;)). When he came back in he was like a little kid. "Those are BRILLIANT, aren't they!" he said. "I'm definitely getting one! Do you ever race them round the garden?"

Not so brilliant to have to need them, obviously, but they ARE brilliant in the mobility/freedom they give you back! Enjoy it. :D

I wonder why so many people are getting ME. I asked my doc if she thinks it might be something to do with pollution in air or food etc and she said who knows. Two new reports out on ME, one UK one says it can be treated by "exercise and counselling"...( aye like hell it can !!! I hope they all get it and then see what they say !) The second US one says they have isolated certain proteins (or something lol) in the spinal fluid of people with ME and MS which are not present in normal healthy people. So fingers always crossed for a breakthrough one day.
I just live around it, if I'm having a bad day I sit on the couch and surf or read or nap,. and I dont feel guilty at all. When I feel better I make up for it.
We have gales and sunny spells, I wish I had some washing to do so I could hang it out but its all done. The RV is being a real pain in the neck going on and on about the cost of petrol and living in general. Moaning doesnt help, I wish he'd shut up LOL

am having a lovely time cooking for my friends tonight - meat for moussaka is cooking, spinach and ricotta mix is ready for the filo pastry thing, feta is marinating, olives are herbified and oiled - the house smells gorgeous! Am doing well keeping kitchen in check, but am off to do some flying now - the bathroom and loo need a flick, bit of hoovering around and a general put away. No sun here but the angry dark black clouds have lightened and heightened so we might be lucky. Hope everyone flutters well today.

Morning all! Could I just piggy-back on the coat-tails of Squeaky's positive start to the day, by just thanking (again) 7 week wonder for posting the 'food co-operatives operating in the UK' linkie.

We have managed to sign up as members of one relatively local to us, have placed our first (modest) order, and quite frankly are looking forward to participating in a 'different' type of shopping experience in the future. We won't be able to get everything we 'need' through this source, but it's a relief to be able to wrestle something back from corporate sameness.

Food Co-op's are probably yet another example of the 'unsung' nature of voluntary work in the UK, and yet provide a vital resource for many people and families. They are probably quite alot of work to set up and possibly you need to have an advanced Diploma in cats (herding of) to take on their organisation. But none the less, people do, and i for one am grateful for them, and for this site/thread for putting me in touch.

    Hi All
Maya, was it you asking about cheap gardening?
We have our 'stuff' planted in all sorts of things, everything from an old toilet & cistern to unwanted wastebins & SMA tins.
Hubby has been in the garden all morning so far, the wood we ordered to finish the decking with arrived just before 8am & Tesco delivery arrived at 8:30, so we don't have to hang around waiting.
Tesco order came to £97, mainly dry goods & will last for approx 3 months, I only buy 2 things for the freezer, onen chips for hubby & frozen peas.
When the wood arrived I queried it with hubby as it seems a lot more than we need, turns out he's planning another raised bed!
    Hugs Hester
