 I thought age discrimination was illegal ?!?!?!
ETA: It is illegal. Directgov Website states that:Objective justification
If challenged, your employer must be able to justify that any direct or indirect discrimination is a proportionate way of achieving a legitimate aim.
What is proportionate?
Your employer should have no reasonable alternative other than to introduce an age-based practice.
For example, a construction firm hiring for physically demanding work that requires a good level of physical fitness, the employer might have a case for setting a maximum age for their on-site workers for health and safety reasons.
What is a legitimate aim?
A wide variety of aims may be considered legitimate, but they must correspond with a reasonable need for your employer. Economic factors, such as business needs and efficiency may be legitimate aims, but arguing that it could be more expensive not to discriminate will not be a valid justification.
For example, a high street fashion store who wishes to employ younger staff in order to complement their brand image is unlikely to be able to objectively justify this because it is not a valid aim.
So unless the posh restaurant can prove that they must employ young people, they've discriminated unlawfully. I personally would be hopping mad and making a right blooming fuss!0 -
I absolutely agree with larumbelle, especially if the idiots actually put in the letter that it isn't age appropriate, obviously you wouldn't want to work for what sounds like a bunch of amateurs anyway, but they should not be doing that! Congratulations Gailey!0

Its very, very rare to get such an admission in writing about discrimination.....many women have heard but not have confirmed in writing the one about ''you might have children''.0

Congratulations Gailey. Glad you are both OK and your wait is over. :beer:I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order

PS - could you soak the duvet in the bath overnight in washing powder and cold water to remove any stains and get your man to sqeeze out the excess water and then put it on the line to drip dry - Ive done this many times as I have issues with AF visiting at night. Maybe if its still needed it could visit the Laundrette after, but as you'll have a cover on and the worst of the stains should be gone no-one will know!
PPS - a salt solution is also good for removing those stainsProjects made for craft fair - 40
