How to Get Through The Tough Times The Old Style Way.

A few years ago I applied to take in a student on a French exchange and as me and ex (partner at the time) were in our twenties, they gave us the teacher who spoke no English!!! It was a hard week
Someone came out beforehand to check out the room that would be used and speak with us, and it was at this point that they said they felt we were a little young, and not a 'family-enough' environment for the students so got the teacher instead.
I only did it once!!0 -

They haven't asked so I haven't mentioned I understand a lot of what they are saying....:o0 -
have had a lovely day, DD's school was shut due to a power cut so had an unexpected day with her today
she watched a bit of tv this morning while i pottered around tidying up, then she asked to play on the lappy so i let her play on the games on nick jr for an hour, then sent her off to play upstairs
i did a full cupboard/freezer/fridge inventory today, found a few tins of stuff that had gone past its bb date so i'll be eating those for my lunch for the next couple of days
we have loads of food in but i have no idea what to do with it, found 4 packs of value stuffing mix that had gone past its bb so i made a couple of those up into stuffing balls and shoved them in the freezer, might do the other 2 boxes tomorrow unless i can find some other inventive way to use them
i can 't believe the change in my attitude this week, last week i was so fed up with being skint and it was getting me down but this week i feel so much more happier, we are still skint, but it's not bothering me in the slightest, i guess i have had my OS lightbulb moment
i am enjoying walking to and from school every day and if the weather is horrible and we have had to use the car i feel a bit down by it!! lol!! i am enjoying not spending any money(don't have any to spend lol) DD has decided that she wants to give up dancing so we will save money there, although she has decided she wants to do ice skating - might just tell her the rink has closed down!!(which will work until she see's some of the older kids walk past our house with their skates) i enjoyed doing the garden at the weekend with DH and DD, it was a real team effort from us and the garden looks lovely!!
now all i need to do is figure out a meal plan with the food we have in and i'll b e a happy bunny
oh and i am wondering if the unexpected compost pile that i have would be worth bagging up and trying to sell to neighbours??
mind you if i did this, it would only be the one bag i would get and then probably wouldn't have anything again until next year
ETA: just realised it makes me sound like i haven't done anything with DD, we made some gorgeous lemon fairy cakes togetherand i've boiled an egg for her to decorate for the egg comp at school tomorrow, which i'm gonna help her decorate in a minute if it's cooled down

Lostinrates you really are a saint for putting ourself out so much and taking on these surprise visitors. Considering the attitude this organiser sounds like she gave you on the phone I don't think I would have accepted them and would have left her holding the foreign bambinos.
I think you should let them know that their trip wasn't well-organised and that you really weren't expecting them. I've bet their families have paid a fortune for them to come, as well.0 -

Oh, I'm not a saint:o..its a change to routine, which is probably ''good for me'' (because I like to plan and know what the next few days hold)and they are sweet and I don't want them to feel uncomfortable or ''unwanted''. Horrible to feel like that in a strangers home. But yes I will be making it clear because its not right, but I couldn't leave people stranded I felt. I jsut like to be very organised, and I have to admit I'm finding it hard to decide what to feed them tomorrow night and I feel terrible that the packed lunches are a succession of ham sandwiches/crips/apple and piece of cake...every day! because I lack packed lunch inspiration without having had the chance to prepare in advance.0 -

Hey Lraumbelle, I have 2 pressure cookers:)
They are quite old. They are 'Tefal Clypso'. Before that I had a prestige pressure cooker.
My current Tefals just have one pressure disc (can't think what else to call it.)
We use it to cook bacon/gammon 12 min per lb.
Potatoes 12 min.
Got a good Dahl recipe from the Sainsbugs pressure cooker book - we just follow the instructions there.
Hope that helps. I will answer any other queries you have if the brain cell is up to itx
