In the last month, I think we've only had our heating on 4 times and that was only from 7 to 11 A.M. We're right blinking hard here in the North East, aren't we Kezlou? :p

    too right we are !

Armed with long coats, gloves and scarfs in the dead of winter ! Heating? What that?
After we left yours J started shaking his head at me. Saying you and me are crackers sitting there in -13 degrees with big coats on in the house!

Your room will be gorgeous with the fire in. Me jealous never :p
Must admit thought ours is on from 5:30am-8:30am then 5:30-8:30pm. everyone's kicking off because i've turned the thermostat down to 18:o. Just wait till next month when it drops to 15!

Well we've been busy the past few days sorting out the house. Been doing lots of patching up where the plasters came off. We haven't even attempted the bathroom. But we found out why the window was leaking and why we had ice last week inside the house. Turns out the muppets who built the extension, instead of plastering under the window just dumped old tiles in it and then barely patched it up. Swear i could see outside through the wall!. Jenni0 knows all about my damp in the bathroom, just tipped another bucket of water out form under the bath.

We then found the same thing around our bedroom window, and we wondered why the house was so cold. But we have made a start.

OS wise, been living out the freezer again, the contents are finally going down, i'm still surprised by how much stuff i managed to shove in. We, well mainly my OH as he told me off for almost breaking his drill bits. What i want to play with power tools too! Sop we now have a new flower box under the window armed with strawberry plants and marigolds. Should look gorgous in the summer. Also sowed some peas and beans. Haven't put anything else as its far too cold and icy. All seeds i've sown indoors haven't showed in the slightest. The weather patterns all over the place so i'm going to leave it till next week before i do anymore.

Fingers crossed no more g!mp masks, crotchless undies come flying over my wall anytime this week. Swear to gawd the people on my street!

:( Yowww, now have an emergency filling in the the back tooth whose overlay pinged off this morning. Feeling a bit tender and have been told to treat it gently. Decay had got underneath and the emergency destist suspects it may be cracked but will see my real dentist on 30/3 to do a proper job. There's a risk tht it might not be savable...

:( Feeling strangely upset at the though, guess it is because if it does go it will be the first loss of my adult set (bar the wisdoms) ...my back teeth are mainly exotic fillings anyway but they're all present and correct. And it's on the right and it's my favourite chewing (and thus toothgrinding side). It wasn't the one I thought was 15 years old anyway, this was barely 5 years old and I attribute it's untimely demise to the stress of toothgrinding over I.B. Perhaps I could sue him for damages.......:rotfl:

:) Well, on the scale of human misery this is absolutely less than nothing and we must count our blessings. Have allowed £15 escape from the wallet into the dentist's till and will have to budget around the problem....probably no Kelly Kettle for me for a while......sob.

Mrswive, thanks for the tip re the puy lentils and I shall also go see if they have Realeat mince in Little Mr T but I suspect not so that may have to be something for next out-of-town trip. Thanks for all the tips, you're a great bunch and I really do appreciate you.

joeck68 I was wondering if you might be eligible for help with your prescriptions? That's a wicked price just for one thing. Do you get Tax Credits as they do an exemption thingie? Some people like me get free prescriptions as a result of having a life-threatening condition which requires constant medication. It might be worth crunching the numbers to see if a pre-payment certificate is worthwhile for you, assuming you need a few prescriptions a year and have a bit of money to spare to get one. You can also get a form called (unless they've changed it) HC11 from the pharmacy to claim NHS costs on low income grounds. Hope you don't mind me sticking my oar in...

:D We have a bit of jollity in our office for Red Nose Day as two of the supervisors volunteered to cross-dress if we'd pony up the cash....the bloke looks surprisingly fetching in the wig and frock and makeup.......it'll be all over FB in a few hours, he he.

Yes we own, we were lucky to buy in the late 90's when house prices were a little more sensible, its been hard to pay the bills but on the whole we have been happy in our street. I am hoping the new folk settle, we weren't at our best after a sleepless night so I am hoping to catch one of them in the garden at some point and explain, it isn't that they cannot make noise but I need at least 5 hours sleep to work 7-5 each day and not become a zombie LOL

Poor you, and poor them too! I'm sure they're mortified that their little one can't settle - and exhausted too - and I suppose their ears are a few feet closer than yours! I'm so glad I haven't got tinies anymore. Perhaps the move has unsettled the baby or it's gone into its own room for the first time.

Sadly no, we don't qualify for any benefits, our earnings are just outside the limits :o - fortunately I'm made of good hardy Nothern stock so don't ail too often :j - couldn't afford to!!! Sorry to hear about the tooth, but lucky you get to see the dentist before 1 April, as NHS dental charges go up then ;)

On an old style front (and because my ear meant I didn't feel like studying) I've taught myself to crochet!! :T actually, that should be re-taught, because I used to do it when I was younger, but forgot, although I do still knit. Anyway, whilst on my sortie to the library earlier, I found a nice book, with straightforward instructions, and combined with a youtube video, I managed to crochet a granny square:j! Its a bit misshapen, but I love it all the same, and keep picking it up to admire. Simple things!

I also managed to pick up a copy of June Fearnley Whittingstall's 'Ministry of Food' book, which looks good. I already have a big library of WW2 books on rationing and make-do-and-mend, a particular interest of mine, so will enjoy browsing through.

GreyQueen: I see you've outed yourself as a discworld fan!!! We are too - though I have to confess to only having read one of the books so far, but have seen the 3 movies (The Hogfather, the Colour of Magic, and Going Postal ) fabulous fun .

Right, off to sit down, as the antibiotics are making me feel decidedly queasy. DH has offered, after lots of pitiful looks from me, to make dinner tonight - pork chops, yum.

    Take care

Hi Bigsister, Shame, its so hard when your little one cries alot. My DD screamed for the first 18 months almost non-stop, and I became paranoid about disturbing our neighbour (who also happens to be our landlady), and I used to keep asking if she'd heard the screaming - she always said not, but I think that might have been to spare my feelings :o (plus she has a son herself, so probably has been through the same thing). Probably earplugs are a good idea - maybe GreyQueen can recommend some? And at least they usually grow out of it, so hopefully it won't last too much longer ;)

    Afternoon peeps

Thanks for the good wishes. You are all sweeties. :smileyhea

On the scale of things its pretty small beer - I can still work (just about) but I am off my food (and I am a complete glutton :o so I'm feeling pretty sorry for myself at the moment, I have to keep off anything fatty, bacon butties are OUT :()

So,as lots of people are obviously finding it tough at the moment - anyone got any good ideas as to how we can all cheer ourselves up - preferably not involving food? (what with tooth problems, colds, tummy trouble etc etc think we all best steer clear ATM!)

Anything cheap - or preferably FREE.:D

I'm looking forward to a hot bath later on, accompanied by some nice music. Shame I can't have a glass of something nice at the same time - but I shall still have plenty of bubbles :D

We could all do with some cheering up what with everything which has been going on at home and abroad recently.:(

So come on peeps - anyone got any good ideas on cheap mood lifters??
SMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)

Mine were snack monsters - I decided to cook tea earlier for them [DH and I eat alot later] then if they are hungry later they can have cereal, if I gave them a snack before tea then I found that tea wasn't eaten

I also discovered that hunger was being mistaken for needing a drink, so try giving a drink and see if that satisfies them - young kiddies can't telll the difference they just know that they need something!!

PS hope you feel better soon - either that or give birth!!
