GQ -just a suggestion re veggie chilli (or veggie whatever actually), I find that green (puy) lentils added to such things give the appearance and texture of minced beef and don't taste of anything once all the seasonings are in. I usually cook a few ounces, drain and add them to the rest of the ingredients.
Puddingwise, I'm a big fan of fresh fruit salad with a bit of flavoured syrup or honey, with separate cream/marscapone for those not counting calories.

Looking at the things I cook, I've just realised I'm a bit of a chuck-it-all-in-er, and my usual suggested quantity is 'some'!

Btw, best of luck at the dentist.

Oh you bossy so and so .!!:D...get your whip out girl.....

I had beautiful rice pudding for desert at tea time, I made it myself.......worked out pretty cheap id say..........2 pints full cream milk and 4 ounces of tesco long grain rice....put in the microwave for 25 mins on full power and stirring a couple of times , it was so creamy and fluffy....been a long time since ive made home made rice......worked out £1.23 p for desert and that fed the 2 of us,:j so thats what you call MS .......61 p for one desert :D............thats a good desert when you have a large family to feed very cheap and very good for you................didnt even add sugar it was lovely as it was.:D:D and very filling........:D

On a similar note:- left over cooked long grain rice from a curry or chilli etc can be used for a pud too.

Put the rice in the liquidiser, along with "some" milk and whizz it. Add milk until you have a rich creamy rice thing. Add sugar to taste, a quick whizz and then heat either in a saucepan or a microwave.

Almost instant ground rice pudding :)

GQ - you have my sympathy - I am terrible with dentists and dread having to go. :)

Gailey - why do you need to have the baptism early if the priest is leaving? Surely if you book the church will book a visiting minister/local retired to cover? thats what would happen here anyways. (My mum was a church admin and my dad is a minister - and thats the procedure here):) As for baby - dont panic he will arrive when hes ready - remember its a male :)

I find this depends on family tradition more than anything else - my son and daughter wore the 'family' gown made by a great great aunt worn by my father, me, etc, etc and it was special because of that, not because it was a gown as such. I wouldn't have bought on a new one though if I hadn't got this family one. At our church many babies wear a 'best' outfit which is much easier to handle - passing the baby in a gown that dangles two feet below the baby's toes between godparents, priest etc. can get interesting!

Yes we own, we were lucky to buy in the late 90's when house prices were a little more sensible, its been hard to pay the bills but on the whole we have been happy in our street. I am hoping the new folk settle, we weren't at our best after a sleepless night so I am hoping to catch one of them in the garden at some point and explain, it isn't that they cannot make noise but I need at least 5 hours sleep to work 7-5 each day and not become a zombie LOL

Love this site, if I have a question I just search for it and there it is!Love the different opinions too, good to have discussion and choice.

I have in laws "up north" so know about the weather but I expect the long term experience will be an eye opener. After reading Martha (sorry if spelling of name is wrong-nice lady who is always short of chocolate and hates the "k" word) and her constant snow I have gotten a pair of snow boots in the sale that are water tight as where we are looking is full of snow again too....cannot wait

Gailey - its all down to personal taste, neither of my boys wore gowns, by my choice, DS12 was about 2 when he was baptised (he had been in and out of hospital when we was supposed to be done - so was late) and he wore a shirt and trousers. DS7 was six months when he was done and wore a sailor suit type thing. Advantage being that both outfits could be worn again - DS7 attended my grandads funeral only a few weeks later so got to wear it again there, followed by a wedding a few weeks after and again the outfit was ideal. :)

At what point should I start believing we are going to buy a house? The mortgage app is in, mortgage in principle flew through, broker says all ok, but I still have worries that they will ring and say no. Not helped that the agent was supposed to remove house from sale on monday and its still advertised. :( OH has called her and she guaranteed its off the market and web just not been updated.

On the idea that no matter what we will be moving in eight weeks or so I have begun to stock up on stuff - OH is going mad as he says its more to take with us, but my argument is that it will mean I wont be dashing off to the shops so often and can dedicate to moving, rather than panicking. Today have bought three months worth of cat litter and dog food. Also bought a seed tray from Aldi which is supposed to be like a window sill green house - OH has promised to spend day in garden tidying up ready for move and has also promiswd to get me the compost out to plant my seeds and potatoes. My dad not impressed with the idea of taking plants on the move but as I pointed out its the only way we stand a chance of surviving when we are paying the mortgage. :)

Stopping a child from screaming at night-my nephews settled into a sleep pattern I think, don't most once they have teethed?
You can tell I have zero experience with children huh LOL

No I appreciate that this isn't likely to happen hence the need for ear plugs so we will get the sleep we need and it will avoid the need to fall out with the neighbours which I don't want to do.

Cheapy veg from Aldi so stew tonight and then something with the leftover veg tomorrow too, something veggie I think so we get a non meat meal
