Glad you added that bit about not making yourself ill!
    Got the bonus BTW.
JUst in time to pay for DS's 18th

Glad you got the bonus :T. I think as long as the car doesn't have really bad damage to it, they aren't too fussy about a few small marks and dents.

You're probably not going to like me for this, but this is all said with the best of intentions.

Okay, the only way I am ever going to get out of my current situation and be able to construct a proper budget is to work my backside off for the rest of the year.

If I can just get myself straight with my bills and pay back my mum, then I can stick to a certain amount of work each month and have a proper budget to start 2012. It's the only way to get myself on an even keel.

You seem to flip-flop from one position to another over a period of a few months. Your post marking your transition to the "have a life" period is here. Are you going to go through an excoriation period until you burn yourself out and then it's back to the "having a life" phase?

It looks like you're making decisions based on your emotional basis at the time. Perhaps it's time to step back and make decisions as though you're a business?

Look again at bankruptcy. I know you've given your emotional reaction to this, but life is short (sorry this is insensitive) and your life will be shorter than many. Your creditors went into moneylending in the full realisation there will be some that don't repay. It is a fact of their business, and they are under no illusions about it.

If you have some pressing logical reason to avoid bankruptcy, then make yourself a budget. A realistic budget. No fancy electronic gizmos you don't need but make you feel good, but equally, a small amount of regular money for you to buy discretionary items, and stop living your life like a flagellent.

Extremes are easy, moderation is hard. But it's hard for a reason - because it's the best way.

Sorry if I've upset you in any way - I just hope I'm making you reconsider *all* your options.

ZTD, please don't think I am offended or upset by your post because I'm not. And what I'm about to say has nothing to do with your post, I was actually contemplating this earlier this evening.

I know I go from one extreme to another all the time. But I'm also just going round and round in circles when it comes to money problems, and believe me they aren't really anything to do with debts, so at this point, I wouldn't gain anything from going bankrupt.

I know what I need to do to get myself sorted, and I just need to get on and do it. I think I will take a step back from MSE for the rest of the year and just get my head down and work hard at sorting myself out. I'll then come back at the beginning of next year and hopefully there will be a big improvement in my financial circumstances.

I may still read the odd post every now and then, but I think it will do me good to stop posting for a few months.

When I come back, I am hoping to be in a much better position than I am now.

How are your money problems nothing to do with your debt?

  • Hi Emz, sorry for not posting. I think you should do what is right for you as its your life. I find that a problem escalates the more you think about it.

I will miss your posts!! Take care x

Okay, I am back. Sooner than I said I would be I know. I kind of felt like I ran away a bit last time.

So, I need to clear a few things up. My debts are not the main problem as at the moment as my creditors have on the whole been really good and are accepting small token payments until I can offer more.

My main problem is that I am behind on some of my bills which I need to sort out pronto, and I need to sort out a budget that I can follow and stick to. I can then put any extra towards debts.

I don't want to go bankrupt. I would just really like to know that I have paid back what I borrowed - illness or no illness.

I think ZTD is completely right about setting the realistic budget, with some money just for me each month (will see how much that will be when I get the budget sorted). Also, I'm cutting out trying to save for any gadgets and other stuff I can't afford. I don't need them and they can all wait until my money is my own.

So, first things first, I need to get my bills under control. Once that is done, I can work out a realistic budget based on my usual monthly payments.

    Hi everyone

Quiet day yesterday for me. Went round my sister's house for lunch and we went for a browse in Hobbycraft. I managed to avoid spending anything though, so it was an NSD for me. OH came home with a load of stuff from Makro, including toilet rolls and some drinks. He seems obsessed with buying toilet rolls at the moment - we've got enough to fill up the bathroom!! Still, saves me buying any.

Should be an NSD today too. Got a cheque through for £31.50 for some MS work, which I have put in the bank. Expecting another 2 cheques for £25 (from a net chat I did last week) and £50 (from New Vista).

Might order my first Christmas present later. My niece is getting a dolls house from my sister and BIL, so I'm going to get some furniture sets to go with it from Amazon. I've got enough for one already. Just waiting for the go ahead from my sister.

Perhaps he's expecting a run on them.

    I'll get my coat...

Does net chat sound wrong? It was like an online forum. :o

You probably should have been more specific, and ruled out the "Ooh it's huge, it's ginormous" kind of net-chat... ;)
