Do you fasten your seatbelt for every journey?.....really?......I don't

  • People who don't put a seat belt on are probably the same people who find it to hard to indicate.
  • Of course, there is the theory that a seatbelt provides a false sense of security.

I don't think many people would argue against the fact that a seatbelt can save your life in the event of a crash at, say, 30 or 40 mph. But what about 70 mph ? It could be argued that a crash at that speed is going to kill you come what may, and if you're not wearing a seatbelt you feel more vulnerable so take a lot more care ..... I guess it's very much akin to the "metal spike instead of an airbag" argument.

For the record, I always wear a seatbelt :-)
  • I didn't when a youngster years ago but have done so for at least a couple of decades and it just doesn't feel right if I don't. I also won't go in cars when people refuse or when they have been drinking or any such nonsense.

I wear seat belts....for my own protection...especially when being driven, as I have an inate distrust of all other drivers' abilities......such a jaundiced view of the abilities of others comes from my work.

I don't particularly care if anyone else does, or does not wear a seatbelt, in their vehicles.

Inevitably they will either suffer, or get prosecuted......no amount of crusading will ever truly have an impact.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

A few years ago I'd got in a bad habit of not putting my seatbelt on when I started driving, I'd put it on about 10 minutes into the drive, I can't really say why I did this, just a habit I fell into.

Left my sisters house one Sunday night to drive and see my friend without seatbelt, couple of miles up the road at some traffic lights I put my seatbelt on as per habit. Literally a couple of minutes later I got hit head-on by a drunk driver who wasn't wearing his belt. I consider myself lucky, I survived with a broken sternum and a few other injuries. He died at the scene in the footwell of his car, his airbag had deployed but hadn't saved him.

Boy have I learnt my lesson, soon as I get in the car the belt is on for me and any passengers and I refuse to drive until everyone is done. Seems the OP thinks it will never happen to them, I never thought it would happen to me :(

Rock/mountain climbers take considered risks.....do you think they are complacent?
No, because they "buckle up" their safety harnesses before they climb ;)

If they had the complacency that you seem to have, half of them - in their higher risk situation - would be splattered all over the ground.
  • i came from albania,
having started to enjoy newish cars, the albanians have found some problems with them and dealt with them in a great way ;)

you enter in your car, and sit down.. start your engine and move.......problem is, you will hear the non wearing seat belt warning sound..bom..bom..bom endlessly'
problem solved---- go to a breakers yard and get just the metal part of an old seatbelt and stick it on your car seatbelt holder so the computer thinks you have put your seatbelt on ;))

its good idea but on the otherside i see many many windscreens there cracked....by their heads !!

I learned to drive just 5 years ago, so its totally habit to put my seatbelt on. (not doing so would be like going out without perfume on-just not happening) And while I personally havent been in a collision my daughter was while out with her gran... She wasnt seriously hurt, just a little bruising but it could have been much worse had she not had her belt on.
